Navy to add 49 ships, submarines

But the question is do we have the political will to use the blue water navy??

All our governments don't have the courage to protect our interests world over...so what is the use of this blue water navy..just to protect our shores..then better call to call be a brown water navy

where does political will come into this? what do you want us to do ? invade random countries to prove we have a blue water navy?
during the war of 71 and even 99 the Indian navy was in full force on the open seas. its for this type of future eventuality that we are strengthening our navy . please do not make random comments without at least first grasping what has been posted.

It means that the PN should have to start a joint development program with China very soon on next generation SSKs and SSBNs. Although the IN number are really worrying and I am sure the PN is doing something (planning) in their secret rooms.
21 SSKs
7 SSBNs
16-21 Frigates
11 Corvettes
15 FACs
11 MPAs
30 UAVs
11 Anti-Ship Blasstic Missiles

Would be more than enough to take care of them.

lets be realistic . thats not even remotely possible for at least the next 2 decades.
for one you don't have the money and second this large infusion of ships and weapons platforms will take time and infrastructure . which again you do not have.:)

.
So after these 49 ships, How many Destroyers, Frigates, FACs/Missile Boats, SSKs, and SSBNs will India going to have? in total post separate pictures of the Destroyers, Frigates, FACs/Missile Boats, SSKs, and SSBNs. Please.

FAC/FIC will number in the hundreds easily.

with challenging threat from two powerful nations is indeed a good reason to have a blue water navy.
At least 3-4 AC's with in this decade.

Correction
From the sea you face only one..
but the large navy is needed for the mass of ocean that is effected by India's presence.. and the ambitions India holds as a regional power.

technically speaking Oscar is right . we only face a future threat from the Chinese navy . the Pakistan navy was never a strong one to begin with .

1. No we don't want to limit ourselves to the region. But we are cautious to take it step by step otherwise USA/EU will be worried and work against us.

2. And its a fact the whole action is in Asia-Africa-Latin America nobody cares for US/EU. We need resources (oil, gas, coal, iron ore etc.) and that lies in the Asia-Africa-Latin America.

A total of 12 ships are planned to be built in various batches, with a second batch of four updated frigates currently in planning.

Sir don't say that we have destroyers as single RAAD or Anti ship missile or even an Anti Ship Blasstic Missile quiped with N-Warhead would be be enough to melt the whole Aircraft Carrier or even the 2nd most powerful Destroyers. See some news about Paksitan Modification of Missiles. Although its just assumption of mine. But I am sure that PN is looking towards future and the future lies beneath the sea and the targets(IN) are above. :pakistan:
Get real and some education on naval warfare too! You think people are so stupid to build aircraft carriers etc without adequate defensive measures? Do you even know what a CSG (Carrier Strike Group) consists of? There's enough fire power within to pre-empt and counter anti ship missiles. And then targeting a moving ship isn't easy! It has been calculated that the KP on a moving ship at 15 knots and at stand off/BVR ranges is less than 5%!!

So what are you talking about?

Do u know that India is going to induct 6 Scorpene submarine + 6 next generation submarines + 3 SSN + 4 SSBN + Akula II = 20 different submarines by 2020-22.

In that case IN has no competitior at all, since PN is not able to compete at all and even PLAN is not able to divert credible forces to the Indian Ocean or the costs around India at the moment. There carriers are just under development and even if they will be available, their first aim will be the same as our first carriers, protecting our coastlines and areas of interest around our country. So PLAN will secure China in first place and not project their power to compete IN in the Indian Ocean.
For IN, the geographic location and the lack of capable competitors around India is a huge tactical advantage and the more they push the induction of new vessels, aircrafts and capabilities now, the more they will keep an edge.

Compare it with IAF or IA instead, they have to protect a vast area, against 2 capable forces. Even though the might have some advantage against Pakistans forces, any new addition to their capabilities in the north east is only to catch up to Chinese forces. A whole different game there!
