Naval exercise ‘Shamsheer-e-Behr’ concludes

KARACHI, Aug 10 (APP): Pakistan Navy’s exercise ‘Shamsheer-e-Behr IV’ has concluded with a debrief session held here on Tuesday. The Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Noman Bashir was the Chief Guest, said a Pakistan Navy statement.



It said that high-ranking officers from Armed Forces also attended the session.
The participating forces were divided into Orange, Blue and Extra Regional Forces.
Vice Admiral Tanveer Faiz led the Blue force whereas Orange and Extra Regional Forces were headed by Rear Admiral Khawar Ali and Rear Admiral Shafqat Javed respectively.
In his closing remarks, Admiral Noman stressed upon the significance of exercises and expressed his satisfaction over the conduct of Shamsheer-e-Behr IV.
He said that the exercise was held at a defining moment when the threat posed in the wake of new war fighting doctrine of the adversary is being evaluated at every level in Pakistan.
He hoped that the exercise would help formulate a comprehensive response plan of Pakistan Navy to the proactive operations strategy in the maritime domain.
The Naval Chief also appreciated participation of the Armed Forces and underlined the need of devising a harmonious and mutually complementary strategy amongst three services.
Earlier, in his welcome address Vice Admiral Abbas Raza, Deputy Chief of Naval Staff (Operations), gave an overview of the strategy and concepts rehearsed during the exercise.
This was followed by a debrief of the exercise wherein Orange, Blue and Extra Regional Forces Commanders gave detailed account of plans implemented and results drawn during the exercise.

well the naval exercise almost went unnoticed. starting on July 13 the exercise focused on dealing with the enemy increasing power in Arabian Sea:

The opening session of Pakistan Navy war game Shamsheer-e-Behr IV held here on Monday. Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani was the chief guest of the event. A Navy press release said that speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister underlined the significance of war games in military planning process and said in todays’ fast changing world, regular conduct of war games to evolve new concepts and doctrines is extremely important.

He lauded the realistic stock taking, exhaustive analysis and objective decision making of the Force Commanders who earlier presented their detailed plans.

Earlier, on his arrival at the venue, the Prime Minister was received by Chief of the Naval Staff along with the key naval commanders.

Deputy Chief of Naval Staff Operations, Vice Admiral Abbas Raza, then presented an overview of the war game outlining objectives set forth and concepts to be tried.

He particularly stressed on the significance of naval base at Gwadar for ensuring an impregnable defence of motherland and relevance of Pakistan Navy under new and emerging challenges.

He added that being a tri-service event with representation of relevant ministries, Shamsheer-e-Behr IV is the Flag ship war game of Pakistan Navy that is held biennially to try various concepts which are then validated in subsequent Navy-wide field exercise before being developed into naval strategy.

The event was attended by a large number of high ranking Armed Forces officers besides civil bureaucrats and representatives of ministries.

Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that the regular holding of war games had become all the more important to evolve new concepts and doctrines in military planning.

The prime minister said this while speaking as the chief guest at the opening session of Pakistan Navy’s war games Shamsheer-e-Behr-IV here at the auditorium of PNS Jauhar (PN Engineering College) on Monday. The prime minister in his speech underlined the need the significance of war games in military planning process.

Gilani, on the occasion, lauded the realistic stock taking, exhaustive analysis, and objective decision making of the Force Commanders of the war games who earlier presented their detailed plans.

Agencies adds: Prime Minister Gilani said the present government is making sincere and all-out efforts for attaining lasting peace through dialogue and negotiations, it is of equal importance that the armed forces maintain credible deterrence and remain prepared to thwart any aggression against the motherland.
He said despite prevailing economic crunch, all needs and requirements of the Pakistani security forces would be fulfilled.
He said he was pleased to know that Shamsheer-e-Behr series of war game had been instituted as a regular feature. He pointed out that importance of the war games needed no emphasis as they constituted an essential ingredient of military planning.
The war games, Gilani further said, allowed the military commanders to take real stock of new imperatives on ground and undertake critical review of old doctrines and tactics.

welll do any news channel have interviewed the naval chief or not if not so why dont the managemtent of this forum go and interview the chief of naval staf i dont think so it will be hard for them since this forum is of defence forces tooo and ask the chief about U 214 sub

i saw PN chief on T.V giving a speech and telling the details of navy's future plans....
though couldn't watch the whole thing as tv channels dont show everything!

Having such Exercise is much more important then having a Submarine. Unless you don't figure out a kind of Doctrine which will then give birth to necessary elements to undertake the same till then there is no point in having a submarine which will only create burden rather then any useful resource.
