What's new

NATO meets tomorrow in response to Poland's request to invoke the Article 4

Yes it will loose but compared to letting them run amock, invading at will i think that somehow things balance out.

Poland exported some 6.5 billion $ worth of goods to Russia and you don't see them complaining.

The fact is that the EU already has very high unemployment.

The EU countries care more for votes at the next election than East Europeans to be blunt.

No,is the other away around. You just have to quit fanboyism and be rational.

Because China doesn't have that technology from industrial machines to IT.Even firms as Lenovo still use critical parts from the West.

Nothing "fanboyism" about loosing your oil and gas supplies . BTW 99% of computers and laptops either be DELL , HP or Lenovo are made by the Chinese company foxcon , What critical parts are you talking about ?

Go and research but you'll probably say it's western propaganda.

Just seeing Russia today being an exporter of mainly resources while it imports technology, pharmaceutical and in general finished products tells you what kind of an economic powerhouse it is.

Let them stop gas/oil...more money for the arabs.Money well spent in the Caucasus afterwards .

Not if you want a viable EU anymore. To be more blunt most in Europe are disgusted by Russia's attitude in the Ukraine,Rightfully so ,it's Czechoslovakia all over again.Russia is to uncivilised to be honest.Nobody did that in Europe for ages.

Russia can import those from other countries as well ...only thing Sanctions lead to is an increase in oil and gas prices which will make Russia quite happy ... Money for Arabs ? Do you realize the costs required to transport oil by sea from the Middle east to Europe ? AS i said Earlier , this discussion is irrelevant has many European countries have already told quiet clearly they wont stop any trade .. as someone said... Putin is not worried about votes, but Europeans are...

Lenovo - you mean CPUs and GPUs?

China can substitute for indigenous ones.

Russians may not be able to play the latest games but it would suffice to keep their economy running.

Check this out:

Huawei Ascend D quad - Full phone specifications

It uses an indegenous processor(CPU and GPU combined) called the Huawei KV32.

Clearly rational discussions are not to be had here.I guess it's my fault for even trying.A good night to you gents, let's hope no war starts in the end.At least i'm hoping,i think you two are cheering for it.:P

in few generations america will be like mexico full of latinos and balcks and few white people left, europe will still be dominant european with significant number of muslims which america forces us to fight against them in their wicked wars in the middle east.

Its just a matter of time until they culturally split.

As long as Russia even wants to kick the US out of Europe and to become the new leader of Europe, China will also support you on this matter.

After seeing what happened in China. They can split first.

This is repeat of the Georgia-Russia War 2008 all over again but this time in Ukraine. EU and the US will give cautious (if not frightened) warnings to Russia and nothing else.

EU's and the United States' world dominance is fast coming to an end. United States is now stuck playing chess with China in the South China Sea and the Pacific, while EU will have to learn to survive the Russian onslaught on their own for a decade or two. This is the new reality.

but Russia will crumble.

Far from it. Russia has lots of reserve and one of the top two sellers of oil and gas. They will be fine. They may see momentary fluctuation in currency value and stock market because these markets are in large part perception based rather than fundamentals. Fundamentals of Russian economy is in solid footing.

On the reverse side, EU has great deal to worry about. Just imagine Russia stop the gas supply tap to EU. What would happen to EU countries? It might be US/thinking that starting this adventure before spring will provide enough time before next winter but sanction will push Europeans cutting their forest to survive through next winter.

Germany, most financially capable EU member does not even want to act on US call for "go to the hilt"; sanction is far off undertakings.

Besides, Russia has bigger market in China and other Asian countries. With deep pocket like China and its advance payment US sanction will be dull, to say the least.

On top of that, any venture of US sanction regime will force Russia to nullify US sanction on Iran. Iranian minister is already in Moscow and coordinating their move. Don't forget Russia-Iran barter deal worth 3 billion/month already nullified US "all option in the table" bully.

In another thread I had mentioned, US threat of "sanction" against Russia is bit out of US range of capabilities. Not to mention such move will further the process of by passing dollar dominated int'l financial system and start an alternative one. G2G and regional basis that replacement already taken steam and when Yuan gets more convertibility, US congress can take coercive instrument of regime change to graveyard and give proper funeral.

looks like EU is confused ...:what:

of course, EU is experts at being confused. And they will request US to come in and save the day. US should told the Europeans to solve their own problems.

It look like that in the scenario when China back Russia in conflict with the west. Indian here would stand with China and against the west. Would most Indians agree with my assessment?

Apart from passenger planes, China can produce every other technology. Russia has it's own passenger plane technology.

Russia and China may not be as good as the West yet, with China fast catching up, but the West now has no critical technology that they can sanction either with.

As long as Russia and China stick together, they are untouchable.

Russia has to only worry about the critical technologies such as CPU/GPU, chip making, chip making equipment (lithography machine, etching tool), software (operating systems, application software), IT (high-end servers, routers, switches, data storage), medicines, high-end medical equipment, oil & gas exploration equipment.

Of all these technologies, Russia has China (IT and medical equipment) and India (medicines and medical equipment) which can provide many of them. The biggest problem will be in the software and semiconductor sectors. China is weak in these two areas.

Russia is self-sufficient in other critical technologies such as telecommunication, transportation (aircraft, rail, ship, automobile), agriculture (seed, machinery), mining & construction equipment, satellites (GLONASS), naval propulsion, aircraft engines, all military equipment.

You need markets, technology, energy, raw materials and agriculture to be self-sufficient as a country. Russia is self-sufficient in energy, raw materials, agriculture, and many critical technologies except a few. As for markets for Russian exports, they have China and India for that.

Russia will probably be banned from using the dollar and be cut off from the western financial system such as banks and insurance. They can set up direct trading with the Renminbi and Rupee and use their own currency.

Russia is a self sufficient , so Sanctions will never work , besides NObody will abide by those sanctions UK , France and Turkey has already made that point ...

Self sufficient to a degree but in modern economies no man is an island, how long would the Russian people accept a decrease in living standards for Putins dream of a new Russian empire?
