What's new

National Space Program 2047 approved by NCA...!

The Hatf-II SRBM that SUPARCO built and the present day Hatf-II Abdali are two different systems. It remains unclear whether the Abdali (new) is SUPARCO's product or NESCOM's. Having said that you have more or less hit the bullseye. Though I do not think SUPARCO would be directly used for a weapons programme. Knowledgebase from missile programme could be diverted to SUPARCO to build long-range SLV, which invariably would signal Pakistan's capacity to build longer-range IRBM and ICBM (4000kms-5500kms). Thereafter, and even before that, the question would be whether we need an ICBM? The short answer is NO!. It would be better to have the knowhow but it is not a strategic necessity.

Indians were clever. They created a separate organization for missile programme and diverted space rocket knowledgebase there to develop ballistic missiles. This way they kept ISRO out of the international blowback, though not completely. Nevertheless, it helped them in keeping their space programme afloat long enough to nurture it to a world-class status.

Actually here in Pakistan, we have two sates of thinking pattern. Either we think about Defense(and hence military related equipment or affairs, even our politics revolves around it), or , we don't think anything. SUPARCO, or any other organization is not working to its potential, because it doesn't have a serious connection to defense. The day SUPARCO launched a satellite that is for military purposes, this organization will also become elite.

But I often think, what about life, what about other matters of society, what about millions of people, even animals in Pakistani territory, are living a miserable life. So, here we need an strict classification of priorities, and for that we need an strong and agile central ruling system. Or yeh Imran Khan k bas ki baat nahi hai. He is more or less a dictator, not an statesmen.

One must not forget that the annual budget of the Indian Space Research Organization is $1.5-billion. Additionally, DRDO ( Defence Research & Development Organization) has an allocation of $2-billion. Don't think Pakistan would ever be able to allocate this level of resources.

IMO, Pakistani scientists & engineers have done exceedingly well with the meager resources at their disposal.

the Indian space program is a success story not just for India but for the entire developing world. It wasn’t always a $1.5 billion program. It started much smaller but the proper vision and ambition was always there. Unlike, Pakistan, the Indians didn’t view the space program strictly from profit prism. Space program is a great way to provide employment opportunities to the middle class and kickstart a scientific culture. Pakistan has long missed the bus and it’s graduates are sprinting out of the country in droves.

DRDO is a failure in many ways and many Indians are actively lobbying to breakup what’s essentially a deadweight
