Joint graduation ceremony of National Integrated Counter Terrorism Course (NICTC) - 9 was held at National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) Pabbi. Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan was the Chief guest.388 individuals of FC, Police, Rangers and other Law Enforcing Agencies (LEAs) graduated through this batch. Since setting up of NCTC, over 2, 35,000 individuals including international military troops from different countries have been trained by Pakistan Army at this facility. The training was organized on direction from Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa which shall continue to enhance operational efficiency of Police and other Law Enforcing Agencies (LEAs).
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief guest appreciated Pakistan Army’s continuous assistance and training support for capacity enhancement of police and other LEAs for counter terrorism operations. He lauded the sacrifices rendered by Armed Forces, civil society, intelligence agencies and other LEAs in fight against terrorism. The event was attended by Lieutenant General Hidayat Ur Rehman Inspector General Training and Evaluation and Inspector General Islamabad Police.
Earlier, on arrival at NCTC Pabbi, the chief guest was received by Lieutenant General Umar Farooq Durrani, Commander Central Command.
NCTC is headed by a brigadier level officer and at present Brigadier Abrar Ali is commander of the 2,500 acre big centre. Over 3000 soldiers are trained every month for 24 training scenarios. Vital training objectives of the NCTC are "to develop physical fitness and mental robustness of the trainees; improvement of weapon handling and firing skills; learning to fight as pair and in small group; mastering the skills of fighting in build up area; to attain proficiency in negotiating various obstacles and field craft; and to develop understanding of entire spectrum of dynamic nature of threat."
NCTC also imparts specialized pre-induction training to Pakistan Army units earmarked for Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA ) and Swat. Training at NCTC started conducting training in counter terrorism under direct supervision of Pakistan army's Kharian Division and I Corps, Mangla by the then Commanding officers, Major-General Zafur-ul-Haq and Lt. General Mian Hilal Hussain respectively.
While first course was conducted from March 2 to 21, 2015, second course was organized from April 13 to May 9, 2015. In addition to army men and officers of the Pakistan army, personnel of various Pakistani military and security organizations and departments are trained in counter terrorism at NCTC. These included Pakistan Navy and Air Force, Strategic Plans Division of the Combat Development Directorate; Pakistan Rangers, Pakistan Frontier Corps; Defense Services Guards, Anti Narcotic Force and police personnel of all provinces as well as Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (Azad Kashmir) Police. Meanwhile, in October 2015, over 65 Pakistani troops, involved in the operation 'Zerb-eAzb' were being trained at NCTC.
