PM Gilani demands end to HR violation in IOK
ISLAMABAD, Feb 5 (APP): Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani Thursday demanded an end to human rights violations in the Indian Occupied Kashmir and urged the international community to play its role for a just resolution of the lingering dispute. Addressing the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly and Council on the Kashmir Solidarity Day here at the PM House, Gilani said the Kashmir issue needs to be resolved according to the UN Resolutions and aspirations of its people.
Besides the AJK President, the Prime Minister, Speaker of AJK Assembly, renowned Kashmiri leader Yasin Malik and members of the AJK Legislative assembly and Council, Federal Minister for Kashmir and Northern Areas Affairs Qamar Zaman Kaira, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Ms. Sherry Rehman, Minister for Law and Justice Farooq Naik and Minister for Labour and Manpower Syed Khursheed Ahmad Khan were also present.
Prime Minister Gilani said Pakistan has undertaken several unilateral measures to ease tension in the region and to resolve the dispute through talks.
On the contrary, India continues with the violation of basic human rights in the Occupied Kashmir, he said and added that over 700,000 strong India army have unleashed a reign of terror on the Kashmiris.
We demand an end to violation of human rights in Kashmir, to create a conducive atmosphere in the region for lasting peace and security, and also to revive the composite dialogue process that leads to results.
The Prime Minister urged the international community to take note of the human rights violations in Occupied Kashmir and play its role to seek a peaceful, just and permanent solution of the dispute.
He said it was vital that the Kashmir dispute is resolved according to the aspirations of the people of Kashmir and the UN Resolutions.
Gilani welcomed the recent statements by the US President Barack Obama and British Foreign Secretary David Miliband on Kashmir and hoped they too will play their role in resolution of the issue for a brigh future of the over one billion people of this region.
Prime Minister Gilani said Pakistan being a responsible state has tried to resolve all disputes with India through talks and initiated the composite dialogue process that led to trade and permission to meet for the divided families across the Line of Control.
Regretfully, the progress suffered a serious setback with the recent Mumbai attacks and the dialogue process suspended.
He said Pakistan strongly condemned the incident at every level and also offered full cooperation through investigation.
The Prime Minister said Pakistan was carrying out investigations into the Mumbai incident on the basis of a dossier provided by India and will soon take the world including India, into confidence about the findings of this inquiry being conducted in a transparent manner.
He said Pakistan, being itself a victim of terrorism condemns this menace in its all forms and manifestations and will never allow its soil to be used for terrorism.
The Prime Minister said Pakistan desires friendly relations with all its neighbours, particularly India as it believes that peace in the region was a guarantee of security for South Asia.
Resolution of disputes, specially Kashmir will pave the way for lasting peace for people of this region, he said.
Prime Minister Gilani reiterated Pakistans complete political, moral and diplomatic support for the Kashmiris as their stance is in full accordance to the international laws, UN manifesto and resolutions of the Security Council.
He said the philosophy of founder of the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party Zulfikar Ali Bhutto to wage a thousand year war for Kashmir, was truly reflected of the aspirations of the nation.
Being bearers of the legacy of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto we will continue to fulfil our obligations, Gilani said and added with Gods will this journey will continue till the objectives are achieved.
Prime Minister Gilani paid rich tributes to the sacrifices of Kashmiris since Pakistans creation and said these would go down in the history books in golden words.
The people of Pakistan appreciate these sacrifices and assure the people of Kashmir that Pakistanis as a nation, while rising above political differences, will never surrender the right of Kashmiris for self determination.
Gilani said founder of Pakistan Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah described Kashmir as the lifeline of Pakistan depicting the deep fraternal and brotherly ties of the Muslims of Jammu and Kashmir with Pakistan.
The Prime minister recalled that most of the directives given in his address to the joint session on April 30, 2008 have been fulfilled. He said additional affectees of Mangla Dam have been provided residential plots and increased compensation, 13 areas adjoining the Line of Control have been included in the federal development program and funds have been allocated.
He said funds for the Sarsabz, hunarmand Kashmir program and for 14 residential colonies for the refugees have been provided.
He said a grant of Rs fifty million has been allocated to facilitate trade across the LoC and MoU signed for setting up a medical college in Muzaffarabad with the cooperation of private sector.
The Prime minister also directed that the Ministry of Kashmir Affairs in consultation with Ministry of Water and Power present to him the package for the affectees of the Neelum Jhelum Hydel project at the earliest.
Prime Minister Gilani also announced Rs 5 million each for the 41 members of the AJK Legislative Assembly so that they may undertake development activity in their respective constituencies.
He also announced discontinuation of the army monitoring in various development projects in AJK.
The Prime Minister also announced to provide additional Rs 500 per month Guzara Allowance for the Kashmiri refugees.
Earlier, AJK Prime Minister Sardar Muhammad Yaqoob Khan in his opening remarks thanked the people and government of Pakistan for their unflinching support to the Kashmir cause and expressing their solidarity with the Kashmiri people.
He said the PPP has always been in the forefront to highlight the Kashmir issue at every level and support the Kashmiris in their just right of self-determination.
The AJK Prime Minister in this respect referred to Simla agreement during the government of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and constitution of Parliamentary Kashmir Committee during the government of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed.
He said Kashmiris do want tension between Pakistan and India, but desire peace and stability in South Asia through the resolution of lingering Kashmir dispute in accordance with the wishes of Kashmiri people.
