Kassa, a beautiful hill near Loralai in Balochistan, has abundant reserves of good quality Marble. Conceived in the footsteps of Chamalang Coal Project, Kassa Hill Marble Project is aimed at bringing prosperity to the area apart from being an excellent venture for marble enterprises.

Discovered in early nineties, excavation of marble reserves in Kassa hill remained stalled due to intra tribal dispute. Army was requested for mediation by Government of Balochistan. After conflict resolution, Kassa agreement was signed in July 2010.

The project is managed by a committee with representation of tribal elders, Government of Balochistan and Pakistan Army. Agreement guarantees fair distribution of income amongst beneficiary tribe and will help in social sector development of the area and Balochistan. ‘Kassa Hill Marble Project’ was inaugurated by Chief of Army Staff, General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani on 21 Feb 2011.

well it appears our army has also got an economy of its own...
i would say its a great move, given our defence budget is very less when to compared to india. this not only contributes towards nation building but also gives them a light cover against ups and downs in economic climate
In principle its wrong, an army is subsidiary unit of defence ministry, it cannot be involved in any kind of economic activities, our army is renting out lawns for weddings to operating petrol pumps, what happens is that they develop a culture of self reliance, they start to believe that they can survive with our without govt funding, act autonomously at their own according to their needs and "designs".

this can be solved by proper external audit & accountability, each and every penny earned must go to treasury first, and then be allocated back to army according to their "needs" only.

Enough have been said about our MilBus. i suggest you read that.

Great thread @Xeric well appreciated approach.
Government authorities must work with sincerity and support PA in such stance, which I find impossible,as our corrupted politicans will not avoid a single chance to fill their goddamn pockets.

There's nothing wrong with utilizing a barren piece of land, filling it with water, populating it with fish and employing a few retired NCOs to manage the affairs. The retired guys get a job and we get cheap, zinda taza machli. Unfortunately, as the opportunity is not available to certain disgruntled civilians, so we really dont care when try their azz off to put the effort into a bad light. ;)

no objection on the said part, however, the point being is if its permitted, accounted and legalized by the State, else its corruption by the books. no one is above the law.
