Approximately 200 houses in the area sustained damage and the burnt area has spanned nearly 3,000 hectares. Another fire, which started on January 30 near El Bolsón Río Negro province resulted in one death the evacuation of over 800 people and the destruction of several homes. In December 2024 wildfires consumed 4,200 hectares of the Nahuel Huapi National Park. The situation is further complicated by forecasts of continued high fire danger in the affected areas hindering containment efforts.

The impact of these wildfires extends beyond the immediate destruction, revealing underlying issues of resource scarcity and government response. The Argentine government's initial response has been criticized as insufficient, particularly in comparison to responses in North America. Mount Etna of Europe largest and most active volcano once again erupted sending lava and ash into the sky. Eruption which began on 12 February 2025 at 09:30 UTC prompted concerns from local authorities and aviation officials. Aviation Color Code raised from Orange to Red indicating that upper airspace in volcano is unsafe for flight travel. Experts from the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) are monitoring the situation closely using surveillance cameras and satellite imagery to track the activity. The eruption follows months of increasing volcanic disturbances and seismic movements with a new eruptive phase starting on 6 February 2025 after nearly three months of minimal degassing. Strombolian explosions characterized the first phase with magma eruptions coming from the Southeast Crater's western sector.

Since February 8, lava flows have been emerging from a fissure near the Bocca Nuova crater at around 3,050 meters above sea level. By February 11 lava had spread southward towards Mount Frumento Supino reaching a length of 2,600 meters. A fracture has opened up between these two vents, causing a lava flow to come out starting at 3,000 meters above sea level. Volcanic tremor amplitude has remained at medium-high levels signaling the likelihood of continued activity. The inhabitants of the western slope such as those in the towns of Biancavilla, Adrano, Paternò and Belpasso, are in a position to view the eruption. The sky above the active volcano has been marked as extremely unsafe for flight travel. Geologists and researchers are closely observing the phenomenon through thermal surveillance cameras as well as satellite imagery.

The volcano has been erupting variable degassing activity with the last significant lava event. The current lava flow follows a phase of moderate and sporadic explosive activity recorded at the Southeast Crater since February 6. The volcanic tremor amplitude has remained within moderate fluctuations, maintaining a medium-level intensity.
