NASA's Mars helicopter Ingenuity takes flight, first for another planet

. .
Fantastic effort - so happy to see this - go NASA go !!!!

.
Flight commands were sent Sunday, after controllers sent up a software correction for the rotor blade spin-up.

Mars helicopter Ingenuity is set to make its first attempt at flight today. (NASA/Twitter)
So much dust on the solar panels, solar powered exploration isn't the way to go for Mars.

.
Yeah, A DJI Phantom would have done much better, right?

:D
Which is quite true if the task is performed on earth at a smallest fraction of a price.
So what is US taxpayers paying?
Just to prove a helicopter works in on planet Mars.

Why don't we let the US taxpayers worry about what they are paying to fly a glorified DJI Phantom on Mars. :D

As a technological achievement, it is impressive. As a foundation for future colonization of Mars, it will be built brick by small brick like this.

exactly! to keep the internals of rover warm it has to charge its batteries every day or it will freeze and die! and with such dusty panels how is rover charging itself! i hope Nasa answers that so we learn amazing science!

Its a proof of concept, it it works the next rover may be a hrover... a rover that can fly and cover greater distances.

Meanwhile I guess we will just have to wait patiently until it happens.

Why are they so obsessed with Mars. Are they gonna make Las Vegas up there or something??

Why don't they try exploring other planets?
Because venus is incredibly tough because of the thick atmosphere . Same with the gas giants .

Better master the technologies on mars and then move forward to the satellites of the gas giants

do the scriptures imply khalifa tullah fil arz or mars ? @Verve @Muhammed45 @Baba Google

with a somalia and ethiopa still existing on planet earth why such prepsoterous amount of resources are being invested for space exploitation/exploration?

NASA's rover is nuclear powered. There isn't enough sun light on the Martian surface to operate a SUV sized machine on Mars.

The daad is mis read in İndia and Pakistan as Dhhaad. The correct pronunciation is ard and not arz.

FYİ

Obviously, the correct pronunciation is very important for planning the flightplan of Ingenuity. :D
