Naked Russians corrupt minds: Goa Congress MP

PANAJI: Russian tourists in Morjim, a beach village in north Goa, move around naked on the beach or are scantily clad, Congress MP Shantaram Naik said Sunday after touring the area popular with Russians.

Naik, who went to the village Saturday with state law commission chairman Ramakant Khalap and Congress leaders, said that such bohemianism "besides corrupting minds of locals left a horrifying impression on children".
"The state government has consciously taken a decision not to prescribe any dress code but during my Morjim tour I was told that some Russians move totally naked," Naik has said in a statement.

Naik said he received several complaints that Russians abused the locals on some pretext or the other.

"Russians are plying motorcycle taxis depriving local pilots of their livelihood, besides violating FEMA (Foreign Exchange Management Act) and Motor Vehicles Act," Naik said.

Naik also said that several Russians were operating restaurants and other eateries originally licensed to locals.



"In such cases the concerned Russian or foreign national should be deemed to be doing business in violation of FEMA," Naik said.

A Russian allegedly murdered an Indian taxi driver this month in Morjim, 25 km from here. Morjim plays host to a large chunk of the 40,000 Russian tourists annually.

Goa, a popular tourism destination, is visited annually by more than two million tourists, nearly 500,000 of whom are foreigners.

well......India is the biggest democracy in the world so it is possible that Naked Beaches are allowed in India soon (like in europe) ...... since everybody has the freedom to live however they like

There should be a limit to this. A minimum dress code must be implemented.

India is not Europe or America, where nudity is 'JUST BEING NATURAL'. Indian public mindset and social values are completely different from west.

When ever different cultures tend to compete, there is bound to be a violent side-effect to it, sooner or later. INDIANESS must be kept intact at all possible levels.

Democracy is no license to vulgarity and impostion of corrupt culture on Indians.

The statment is more to do with covering up recent raps and killings of Russian women at Goa Beach.

Goa is becoming an assulting place against foreign women tourists.


Its a beach resort so there suppose to be some nudity or whatever you may call it.

It attracts a large number of foreign tourists to India so i think this statment is not that positive for them.

But when it is their beaches, call it vulgar. but in the case of europeans doing vulgar things about Islam, they call it freedom.

I would say to open a "naked beach", a zone specifically for nudes. I mean there are naked holy men walking around all over India and nobody have problem with them. There fore, IMO, a special zone for nudes should be created, probably away from places that are often visited by families and children. This way problem can be solved.

Dude we have naked holy men all over India, infact one of our respectable religion, jainism, reccomend nudity. If they can do it, tourists can also do it....isnt that a fair arguement?

with you. Infact i am looking it at from a different aspect and thats the security at Goa beach not nakedness as Beaches are bound to have such activity.

The govt had to check the loopholes viz a viz recent assults on women there.

What minister said was wrong he is there to protect ppl. If government thinks some code i required they can bring a law and enforce that but before that get sm more cops around.

But I think they way Goa is Babes , drugs etc its definitely crime prone and one should be careful.
