Jihad is an internal concept against personal sin, there is no concept of solidifying Muslims into an ethnic identity and fighting against Non-Muslims-----or am I wrong?

Jihad is to "struggle"...in any aspect of life. A teacher trying to combat illiteracy by teaching ppl is jihad. A lawyer representing an innocent man who had some injustice done...and tries to get him justice in the court of law(whether he/she succeeds or not)...that's jihad. Ppl who go to even the most remote areas(that may even be dangerous) to vaccinate kids...that's jihad.

Essentially it just means struggle(towards good) with ur actions, wealth, or even ur life. The one about fighting wars and killing of "nonmuslims"...that's more a misinterpretation by idiots like ISIS.

Originally what it was...in the early days of Islam...Muslims were persecuted. The Mecca of today was then filled with idols of neighboring cities and towns. The ppl from surrounding communities used to travel there for a yearly festival of sorts for their deity...this was good for business for traders and such. A monotheistic religion that didn't condone idolatory was a threat. Bcuz of this they went after Muslims hard...plotted to assassinate Prophet Muhammad(PBUH), tortured Muslims like Bilal Ibn Rabah(RA) for example, and drove them out of Mecca. They had to migrate to Medina. Even then they were threatened and an army was sent against them. This is the very first time a jihad(in the form of warfare) was called. This is jihad bcuz u r fighting against oppression and injustice...Muslims were persecuted and they were fighting against that persecution for self preservation.

There is no "jihad" in killing innocents on the basis of them being "nonmuslims"...that is just plain murder and forbidden. It's just idiots who lack knowledge(and fail to study Islam for themselves)...they allow themselves to be manipulated by the likes of ISIS...and think that there's some glory in killing innocent ppl.

It is generally good practice to look at and study the religion itself rather than infer what it is by the actions of its followers. I have attempted to study(though I'm no expert) Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism, and Hinduism...just as a comparative study...to be better informed.
