Muslims have the highest number of illiterates — nearly 43 percent of their population — while Jains have the highest number of literates among India’s religious communities with over 86 percent of them educated.

According to the Census 2011 data, Jains have just 13.57 percent illiterates aged seven and above among all communities.

This is because Muslims don't adher to Quranic studies. Are they deviating from Islam?

Muslims have the lowest literacy rate everywhere..

Muslims throughout the globe,the vast majority of them lack severely in both secular and proper religious education.

The vast majority of Muslims don't know what they're reading when they pick up the Quran because they are not fond of Arabic nor do they bother to read translations of the Quran.

Ironically,Islam as a religion,lays a lot of stress on education,secular or religious,but hey,why would the Muslims care.Muslims and Islam are increasingly becoming two totally different things.

Not entirely true but they do have trend of not studying but having low skill jobs too early in childhoods.

Muslims in India not only lacking in education but also behind social and economic platforms because they have very less opportunities in India to get Jobs and this is a chain reaction no jobs no money which means very little resources for them to educate their children and those who educate their kids disappointed because educated Muslims gets only few jobs as compared to other religious groups.

the most logical reason is there 50% population (girls i am not saying all but....) are not allowed to go to schools if u take out 50% its a good chance u will end lower than everybody and if lady of the house is not educated its an uphill task for all

AND 4UR DISCRIMINATION PART any pakistani (cause u dont know) who thinks that muslims are discriminated have to just look at bollywood where top 3 (could be argued) actors are muslims and plenty more in other fields

Generally middle class people in India prefer to have 2-3 children's where as Muslims prefer to have more than 5-6 children even though they cannot afford to I don't know why and they suffer due to that. then they prefer to send their childrens to do petty jobs rather than to school as they start earning at the early age which either turn them into child labour or criminals.

Problem is with the attitude of Muslims and not with the government policies.

Our GoI must cancel the Hajj funds for Indian Muslims and in-turn use that amount for education scholarships for MUslim women. This would largely improve the communities backwardness.
