Representatives of the Muslim community in Switzerland (only if they wish to do so) may make a statement disassociating themselves from such sentiments. Apart from that, it is only a matter for the local authorities to handle (as per the laws). The elders of the community need not be held to account for the expressions of a few (even more so if it is only articulated in words). AFAIK, there is some freedom of expression in Switzerland; so even a (lunatic?) fringe can express its views in a non-violent and non-confrontational manner. And follow the prevailing local laws while doing so. Apart from that why should migrants (of any community) be called upon to persistently and stridently demonstrate their allegiance/conformance to their adopted country?

Will that be fair??

This case -- and the whole matter of Muslim extremism in the media -- has never been about the law. These extremists are careful to be always just shy of the legal limits. As you wrote, it is ridiculous to expect the Muslim community to police each individual 24/7. I can put examples of other minorities whose individuals demanded extraordinary treatment and/or changes to established norms in their country, but it would only distract from the debate. The mainstream Western media is not interested in these groups; their focus is the Muslim community.

The fact is that the Muslim extremists and the Western extremists (the ones in Armani suits and the ones with press badges) are in a symbiotic relationship. They all need each other to continue their respective causes, or they will lose their raison d'etre. Counter-terrorism and sensationalism are not just multi-billion dollar industries, they also allow governments to enact invasive legislation that would be tough to pass through otherwise. That is why the British government takes no action against the likes of Anjum Chaudhry, despite the constant denouncements by the wider Muslim community.

So, given that the Western media and governments have a vested interest in seeing these extremists flourish in their midst, there is not much the Muslim community can do.

what double standard? dont you see Europeans singing Haray Rama haray Krishna too? they preach as well dont they? every believer of a religion, faith or an ideology will like more people to follow what he believes in.

so whets wrong with that? the important thing is the free will and choice, if the majority doesn’t adopt something new then the want just remains a wish and there is no harm in wishing. but if the majority adopts the change then why panic?

respect the free will and choice of majority, if the new converts decide to change the name of and the flag then so be it.
