Atatürk did not destroy the khilafat, the khilafat died of its own incompetence and inability to compete in the modern world. It also chose the wrong side in WW1, which weakened it severely.

Multi ethnic geographical empires like the khilafat were doomed to fail in the 20th century. If the British, Russian, French empires all fell why would the ottoman one be any different? To blame azionist conspiracy or Atatürk is to be blind to the reality of a changing world.
