Musharraf Era was best in 63-year history of Pakistan: Dr. Salman Shah

Saad,

Pakistani politicians deceive the nation and deceive the populace----. All this problem lies with the politicians----if you see progress during millitary regimeand negativity during civilian----then it the civilian part that needs to be blamed---.

For the one simple fact----pakistanis do not want to and do not know how to run A RELAY RACE----they hate to take the baton, and move forward----they would rather start from scratch every single time so that their predecessor doesnot get the credit for any good they have done in their time.

This is a standard pakistani habbit----one puts up the foundation and builds up on it---the next one comes in and tears up the foundation and starts his own game----a nation of fools running and round in circles small and large---living an illusion that only they can see.

1) Politicians are the mirror of the society. Its just random sampling statistically. YOu cant outsource your politicians to some other planet. If you look at the history, politicians all over the world made disastrous mistakes but learned from that. Hitler was a politicians too.

2) Military can do some quick fix with external help. They are quick, strong and decisive. But once they are too long in power will turn worse than politicians. After all everybody is the son of Pakistan.

3) Democracy could be very tedious, slow and corrupt. Yet, they can be voted out and fresh faces could be given a chance. The best thing about continuous democracy is that, you can filter out some bad apples along the line.

4) Democracy also provide, long lasting economic development with people's confidence.

5) From the above graph it is clear that, Pakistan's GDP growth rate proportionate to US handouts. It also proves that, Pakistan's economy stands on shallow ground. Pakistan has domestic savings rate below 14% so it needs external infusion to drive the economy forward. With that kind of domestic savings you cant have a GDP growth rate more than 2-3% a year. Thats harsh yet reality.

The apparent proportionality in US aid and Pakistan's GDP growth may seem to have a relation but in reality this just oversimplification by just looking at two images.

The Ayub Khan era's spike was due to rapid industrialisation in the country.

Decline in Bhutto era was the reversal of industrialisation due to nationalisation of industry.

Zia-ul-Haq again was again a strong proponent of industrialisation and privatisation. The great Dr. Mehboob-ul-Haq was the finance minister of Pakistan 1982-1988.

The lost decade of 90's was stung by democracy.

Pervez Musharraf again brought industrial and investment friendly policies. If you remember, when he came into power in 1999, FDI was $300 million. In 2008, it was ~$8 Billion and Boeing and Mercedes were planning to come to Pakistan.

Then, we were bitten again by democracy.

Democracy is only a good system if it is implemented in it's pure spirit. In a society where voting is decided upon family and tribal relationships and religious following it will bring corrupt persons every time. Pakistan is the prime example.

Unfortunately, we can't say that one era was better then other , because the underlaying problem still lies in our society

An Era which defines a nation is truely a respectable era where a nation steps out of Jihalat , and tax evasion

Untill as a nation do not start paying taxes , and the day where people don't start planting trees themselves and the day they start to report electricity theft ... we can't say any change has taken place ...

We are ruled by " Families "

Be it Zardari
Be it Bhutto
Be it Sharif ....

Untill a Poor kid cannot dream to be leader of nation you can't say that any era is sincerely good Era

Core problems in Pakistan -

Massive population
No taxes on Agricultural Land
No Education - equal rights on attaining
Rule of Law

Musharaff was on right idea and path but unfortunately as usual like Pakistani batsmen

He made a cool 25 runs inning and then threw away his wicket with a cheap 6 , if he would have been patient he could have scored 200 double century

That is the story of our nation

There has to be speration of Military from Governance of Civilian Gov (While the character and morals of Armed units is never doubted) but they are not trained to govern civilian institutes

If our Civilians are "Incomponent" then its understandable but eventually we need people educating with political science education to be in control of nation \

PS:

The reason we see an illusion that Military Government yeilds result is that people only listen or take notice when they see a Stick or danda

Normally , if the Civilian Justice system and police system is strong , no one needs Generals to rule or build factors ...

Army / Airfroce / Navy's Job is to get trained and go on missions to protect national interest ... not sit in
busienss office and run companies

Example:

Imagine a Grade 5 class room , kids throwing paper , and running around in class room , and then one Kid , stands up and tell them please sit down and study .... no one listens

But then a Adult teacher with a stick comes in , and suddenly there is silence in classroom

People listen in Pakistan to Military becasue they have the STICK ...

Normally government leaders would have the STICK if Police and Law was strong with out this power they are ACTIONLESS

The reason why our Police / Anti Drug / Border Police / Law and Justice department are weak is simply becasue NO one pays tax ..

That is why we hear stories that a Rich politicians does not pays tax yet he walk away with millions to UK

Musharraf's rule was brought down by a US funded media and Lawyers campaign. He was a smart man but still came into the traps of mis-perception created by American funded media.

In an ironic twist of fate, the two pillars of state (journalism and Judiciary) that were used to oust the establisment guy (Musharraf) are now used by establishment to bring their new guy (Imran Khan).

Lesson: Pakistan Army is learning.

The fact:

I don't care if there's democracy or dictatorship, we all just want food on our table. The common man doesn't really care.

Sir,

Musharraf got thrown out because his team---AKA the Chaudhry brothers deceived him----secondly---his team was not capable to handle multiple crisis that came about at that time----thirdly---Benazir had promised to hand over A Q to the u s and disband isi---Musharraf needed different kind of players to have solidified his position.

Hi,

Asolutely---we can say one era was better than other----day light is day light and darkness is darkness----. Because all the issues were not addressed---does not mean the credit of the good things must be taken away.

If that is the standard you set for others----would you want to be rated in your personal life on the same standards---how would one answer to his LORD on the judgement day---when the good and the bad would be weighed against each other!

Hi,

So either you are a saint or a sinner----wish life was that simple.

Musharraf:-

Let's look at the capability of this guy.....

1999...Kargil fiasco. In order to launch an attack on the Indian side, he requests some troops from his commander. Tells them he needs them for some live exercise up north, didn't tell them that they would all die in a war. Only Musharraf, Maj Gen Ahraf Rashid and Lt Gen Mahmud Ahmed (X corps) and one another General knew about the actual war. PAF was kept in the dark.

Now give me one example from history where a military commander keeps his officer and commanding officers in the dark about a war. (Beghairati ki Inteha )

He attacks Indian outposts, then when the war gets out of hand, Bill Clinton slaps him. Poor Nawaz Sharif.

This was the shameless level of Musharraf, a guy who made Pakistan a Pariah state on the world stage before he even came into power and long before the WOT non-sense started.

Man.....you know what scares me...it's not Zardari, Bhuttos, Balochi Insugents, Taliban, Sharif Brothers or Imran Khan....but in fact educated people like you who still vouch for Musharraf.

Pakistan's GDP went from a bare $700+ to $1200 (nominal, estimate) and Musharraf's own finances went from a paltry 80,000rs salary to 100s of Millions of dollars in his foreign accounts.

Nice choice there guys.

I say, a job well done by Mushy to make a mockery of the entire nation.

Sir,

Along with poor analysis---you are also showing a lack of proper 'diction'---or a lack of using proper words -----or not knowing what to say, because maybe you are angry at me. You can say that it was a strategic mistake for not informing other commander---but what does ' ghairat or beghairat ' have to do with the issue----.

Also please, if my post upsets you, please address me---don't be bashful---.

You don't know why paf was kept in the dark----because they could no do diddly sh-it in case of air war----. In 1999 PAF was only a chicken----a skeleton of what is supposed to be.

I think its normal to say that every Military dictator’s era from Ayub to Musharraf were better than civilian rules ever comes in between them, that’s a hard fact, no doubt about it.., but that’s not the point the point is why its only like that in our country alone…??

I will not buy the arguments that only politicians are corrupt and military regimes are not, that’s an abject conspiracy in itself against Pakistan and its democracy nothing else.

The problem with Pakistan is never in its history any politicians arises on the political screen independently on his own, they are simply plantation to guard establishments (read military etc.) interests for one way or other in that point in time of history.

The moment their purpose are served the next they becomes Security risk, friendly to India more than India itself, Anti Islam, Ghaddars, corrupt & selled out to USA….all within minutes…!!

In military regimes “the machinery” who generates these conspiracy theories on daily basis in civilian rules went on "vacation" and in lieu of that governments becomes peaceful in every kind of dealing and decision making, be it presented over of Pakistani land to Iran, China for lifetime or handing over of important airports on rent to super powers for being used as launching pads in every now and than..., the repercussion will be dealt by the people of Pakistan in the name of Islam & Kashmir as these are our opium historically.

If the future of Pakistan is democracy through constitutional means i/o dictatorships than ordinary people should learn to show patience in civilian rules, let anyone of it to complete its natural lifecycle only at least “once” and on top of it refrain to becomes pawns (for some short term benefits over long term) in the hands of establishment as they always falls upon whenever called, on whatever name or cause like an old prostitute.

i think without any govt pakistan could go on a faster pace , they all create chaos in society:rofl:
i hate them all , whether musharraf or zardari or any other !

Best history in 63 year history imo was during Ayub Khan's era. No one talks about him. Why do you all forget so easily?

Most of us were not born than, how you expect every one to remember!

Perhaps, Musharaf was second best but he had many challenges, too. Still most of us can only compare Musharraf with Sharif family, bhutto family and zardari family at most.
