Mumbai gears up to host maiden MRO India 2011

Indian business capital Mumbai will host the country’s first three-day international symposium--MRO India 2011--beginning March 16. The event will spotlight some of the latest trends and technologies in the global aerospace maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) arena. Though the MRO business is still developing in India, most airline and airport stakeholders are gearing up to tap the potential of this emerging sector.
“With the rapid growth rate being witnessed in the Indian aerospace sector and the expected expansion in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities in the coming decade, the need for advanced MRO facilities within the country is paramount. The exhibition is expected to showcase market offerings from a series of exhibitors, including Air Works India, Max Aerospace, Tri-County Aerospace Inc., Heico Aerospace, Turkish Technic, AAXICO, Partsbase, the Society of Indian Aerospace Technology and Industries and ADS UK Group,” says Rohan Moorthy, the event spokesman.
C.G. Krishnadas Nair, managing director of Cochin International Airport Ltd. (CIAL), tells Aviation Week that the MRO 2011 show will be an “historic gathering,” given that India has never attempted an exhibit of this size before.

Construction of Boeing’s MRO depot in Nagpur set to begin

Work for the construction of the Boeing Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) depot in Nagpur’s MIHAN (Multimodal International Hub Airport at Nagpur) SEZ area is expected to start within two months.

“Finally, Air India and Boeing have got down to designing the MRO. The work for its construction is most likely to start in the next one or two months,” managing director of Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC), the nodal agency developing MIHAN, R C Sinha, told The Indian Express.

Boeing had announced, amid much fanfare in Nagpur about four years ago, that the Rs. 500-crore project would set up the MRO as part of India’s deal for purchase of a fleet of aircraft from the aviation giant.
