QUETTA: Police has arrested Pashtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party MPA Dr Abdul Majeed Khan Achakzai, for running over a traffic sub-inspector by his vehicle in Quetta on Tuesday.

Du etc over speeding, Abdul Majeed Khan Achakzai’s vehicle rammed into Traffic Sub-Inspector Haji Ataullah along GPO Chowk intersection, while he was performing his duty in the middle of the road.

Sub-Inspector Haji Ataullah died on the spot, despite being rushed to the hospital.


After the CCTV footage that went viral on the social media, police took action against the death of their colleague.

However, initially, the police had registered a criminal case at the Civil Lines Police Station against ‘unidentified persons’, allegedly under pressure to ‘hush up’ the issue.

Apparently the lawmaker was upset on the Policeman for 'being disrespectful' while he was on duty. Police registers an FIR against an 'unknown' person despite the CCTV evidence.
PkMAP legislator and Public Accounts Committee chairman Abdul Majeed Khan Achakzai’s vehicle hit constable Haji Atta Ullah when he was performing traffic duties at Shaheed Faraz Sunbel Chowk on Tuesday evening.“

The injured constable was taken to Civil Hospital but succumbed to injuries while on the way to the trauma centre,” police sources told The Express Tribune. The body of the victim was later handed over to his heirs.

SSP Traffic Nazeer Kurd said: “Achakzai was driving the vehicle himself and we are investigating the incident.” However, the police has lodged a case against unknown persons.

The family of deceased Sub-Inspector Haji Attaullh – who succumbed to his injuries after allegedly being run over by MPA Dr Abdul Majeed Khan Achakzai's vehicle – announced that they would not take blood money or pardon the accused.

Speaking to Geo News, the deceased`s family living in Dera Ghazi Khan, alleged Attaullah was murdered by Achakzai while he was driving under influence.

The deceased`s son Moazzam Atta said the police must register a case against the MPA rather than filing it in the name of ‘unidentified persons'.

“The MPA was driving under influence of alcohol. We will never forgive him,” claimed the deceased policeman's son.

Attaullah leaves behind two daughters, three sons, widow and parents.

MPA Dr Achakzai was presented in court twice on Saturday. During his first appearance, the MPA was seen being taken to court without any handcuffs and also misbehaved with members of the media. The MPA was not placed in remand during this appearance, however, when he was presented in court the second time, Achakzai was placed in police remand for five days.

While expressing anger over coverage of the incident, Achakzai said the media could not obtain the video of the explosion that took place in Quetta on Friday, but got their hands on an accident footage.

"Had the police called [the media persons] beforehand? Shameless people," said the MPA.
