MP dumps Sania after her demand for jet, make-up kit

Hi,

Bad bad advice by the manager for asking these perks in today's environment. Absolutely stupid.

@Guynextdoor2 is a bhakt or a sanghi.. I don't know which one it is exactly. I am not sure they are synonymous or not. But I'm sure he is one of the two, and that block likes Sania Mirza.. I wonder why.. Probably, because she is heavily built ?

You don't need to be a Bhakt or a Sanghi in this country to be a self righteous prick. Sure there are other 'stars' like Salman Khan who will get all these facilities. But somehow a Sports Star like a Sania asks for something that every major sports personality in the world asks for, it is a 'crime' and she's getting too much credit and she 'only plays doubles'. Forget the fact that any corporate sposor will expect her to ask for these things and give her.

her make up kit cost will be considerably more.... jk

If she is an international star and represents the country, I guess 5 business tickets and a makeup kit is not a big demand. I mean you call any popular singer of international repute, he/she will demand millions of Rupees. In my personal opinion, sport stars are much more beneficial for the country and the society that we see in the west at least.

Make up kit for wat, fair & lovely ad ?

Accommodation & two tickets ( for her & manager) are ok but why 5 tickets? Seems a little bit of wayward success has gone into her head. She's possibly emulating cricketers way of becoming celebrity by taking one wicket in 100 tests or making hay while she can hold the racket. India has set very low level standards in sports that even those participate in tournament end up gaining celebrity status.

What the event organiser should do is still keep a empty chair for sania mirza at the event.
And explain it on loudspeaker why she did not make it to the event.

Why? Sania Mirza is entitled to ask for whatever she wants, it's the prerogative of the MP government to refuse which they did. End of story. She's not a government servant nor is she obliged to the government of MP to attend any function they organise. Pretty cheap shot by the sports minister Yashodhara Raje Scindia.

BHOPAL: Madhya Pradesh sports department dropped the idea of inviting ace Indian tennis star Sania Mirza as chief guest for its annual sports awards function after state government refused to meet her demand for a makeup kit and chartered jet.

Sports minister Yashodhara Raje Scindia made the disclosure during a lunch hosted in honour of this year's awardees at Hotel Jehan Numa Palace on Tuesday.

Instead of inviting Sania, sports minister invited senior badminton coach Pullela Gopichand to attend the function. Gopichand is also the technical advisor of the MP badminton academy.

Yashodhararaje wanted Mirza to attend this year's function. Owing to this reason, the award function could not be held on August 29. "I was in touch with her for past few months. I was shocked when I received a list of demands from her," the minister said.

She said: "I respect her talent and she has undoubtedly made India proud at international platform but her demands were unacceptable. She wanted MP government to arrange Rs 75,000 worth make-up kit and a chartered jet with five business class tickets."

She said, "When I asked her manager that Sania is not a Bollywood star and she was invited to motivate budding players, her reply was that even Sania is a big star today."

Citing her inability to give in to such demands she said, "We are accountable to public money. We can't spend money on anyone's personal make-up kit."

She claimed she received the list of demands just four days before the function. "Everything was set as I was given the date of November 28 by her. I had even directed department officials to make necessary arrangements to organise the event. However, her demands forced me to drop her name and I said no to her," she claimed.

Praising Gopichand, she said, "I am happy to invite Gopichand. He accepted my request just on a call. His presence has made all of us proud."

It is not much at all considering she is world number one in doubles. If cricketers are showered so much money why not tennis stars. Tennis is a world sport and to be number one is not an easy achievement.

If you remember Rehman was given more than Rs 5 crore for composing official song for 2010 Commonwealth games. Instead they could have used it on sportsmen and women who lack even money to go to sporting events.

How much will the total demand would have cost ? 5 lakhs

It's too stupid to let media know that you can't afford 5 lakh and blame the sports person

She could have asked 50 lakhs if she is getting that much as her fee..

It's left to that person to demand how much they want.

If we cannot afford, forget it and call someone who we can afford, Or who can do social service .

Does she owe something to MP ?

In response to the charges levelled against her by the Madhya Pradesh government, Indian tennis star Sania Mirza issued a statement on Wednesday justifying her demand for a chartered plane to attend the central Indian state’s annual sports awards ceremony.

Reports emerged earlier this week that the 29-year-old had asked for a chartered plane and a make-up kit worth Rs.75,000 to attend the function on Saturday which was postponed to Tuesday.

When the demands were heard, state sports minister Yashodhara Raje Scindia declined to meet them and instead brought in chief national badminton coach Pullela Gopichand as the chief guest for the event.

Sania responded to the controversy through her managing agency KWAN.

“We had been directly dealing with the concerned persons in order to facilitate Sania Mirza’s visit for the event in which she was very keen to participate. It was to take place in Bhopal on November 28 and we are well acquainted with the negotiations that were under way,” KWAN chief operating officer (COO) Indranil Blah said in a statement.

The statement refuted the claims she asked for “Rs.5 lakh” to attend the function but admitted the star did demand a private jet.

“There was never any demand for an amount of Rs.5 lakh on this occasion made by the agency, as suggested by the media reports,” said Blah.

“As Sania Mirza was already committed to participate in an event in Goa on November 29, and since the commercial flights were taking her seven hours to fly from Bhopal to Goa, it was practically impossible for her to be physically present for both these events unless she was accorded the facility of a private jet for flying from Bhopal to Goa.”

“Hence, the request for a private jet had to be made for just the outgoing flight from Bhopal to ensure that Sania Mirza could honour her commitment in Goa - a commitment that had been made more than a month ago,” Blah added.

The World No.1 women’s doubles player is currently in Kobe, Japan, playing in the International Premier Tennis League (IPTL).

“The practical impossibility of getting a popular celebrity to be present in two different corners of the country within a short span of time sometimes has to be tackled in this unusual manner and we are disappointed at the distasteful, damaging comments being floated against Sania Mirza by certain sections,” said Blah.

“It is particularly distressing for the agency as well as our client since we were given the impression by the negotiating official from Madhya Pradesh that as it was practically impossible for Sania Mirza to attend the event on November 28, another date would be mutually decided upon for the same event when our client had more time available.”
