More Pics of DRDO MC Rifle

This rifle is more than enough for Indian Soldiers. For generations Indian Soldiers have operated with conventional rifles. All the Doctrines and Tactics of the army would be needed to change if bullpups are introduced.

I doubt that, besides, bullpop rifles are just unconventional in their layout of some parts and their design, you dont have to change doctrines because you adopt a bullpop rifle. And modernization usually includes changes of doctrines. Warfare changes like nothing else in this world, and one needs to keep up with the pace.

A member from IDF was claiming in a thread that troops refused to carry Tavors because its parts would not survive daily rigors. What good is a rifle if soldier hesitates to use it in actual combat.

People on online forums claim many things...... especially on forums like ***. Without reference, such claims are BS.

whats the weight? Can anybody answer who really went there?

well i dont like it its more like a ripoff of AK 47 with a interchangable barrel and mag feed machensim and a M16 style butt stalk (improoved clone of INSAS)

i guess its better they had made something like a tevor bull pup or at least liesence build it rather than throwing there money in such stupid and non practikle guns

I see nothing wrong with this gun. I guess with interchangeable barrel, adjustable buttstock and multical capability,
the same gun can serve multiple roles: carbine (5.56mm), assault (6.8mm), or battle rifle (7.62mm). It can
be very practical and reduce lifecycle costs, spares requirement by a good margin.

DRDO has also shown a bullpup version of MCIWS earlier, I don't know the development on it though.

It's not correct to judge a gun by external looks, it's the internal mechanism that matters, because that's
what decides performance & durability. On that count, you can say MCIWS (or MCAR) is very unique and
ingenious.

Probably a dumb question, but can anyone explain why exactly is a multi-calibre weapon needed in the first place? Does the range and penetration increase by using certain heavier calibres on the same rifle?

someone should tell these guys the first rule of guns : never have your finger on the trigger unless you are 200% sure to shoot and always treat it as loaded. Nice looking weapon though.

These are not soldiers...just some suits checking it out. Trigger discipline ahem!

Mate, just because you would prefer it doesn't mean much. The bull-pup design was run in parallel to this traditional design and was found wanting. There's no need to go for the extremely expensive TAR-21 for the entire IA when this MICWS can do the job for the grunts not to mention has the multi-cal capability the IA wants and the TAR-21 is lacking. There are very few militaries in the world that actually have bull pups as their standard-issue AR, there must be a reason for this. I don't know enough about small arms to possibly comment, maybe @sandy_3126 can help me out here.

5.52 mm - More Accurate and but Lesser wounding power. Suitable for close-range fighting.
7.62 mm - Basically used in sniper rifles and medium machine-guns. Heavier than 5.52. Great Wounding power. It is difficult to fire in rapid semi-automatic mode and almost uncontrollable on automatic.Suitable for Long range fighting.
6.8 mm - Basically a hybrid of 5.52 mm and 7.62 mm. Has a similar range like 7.62 mm but relatively lighter and shorter in length. its accuracy is equivalent to 5.52 mm.

But isn't it better to use dedicated Rifles for the roles of Close Range Combat, Sniper etc? What's the advantage of having a one-gun-fits-all arrangement?

Therein lies the catch. Army ops, like Cricket, are team exercises, aren't they? Everyone in the Army does not receive the same training and has the same expertise either.

Any idea on what the promoters of the MWICS have to say about it's advantages on a battlefield?

How will you suggest a sniper to kill a enemy or a terrorist within a few yards..?? and how will you command a close battle group to kill a terrorist at 500 yards..??
the answer is a multi-calibre gun..
a close battle group always specializes in close range battle but may receive a basic training on medium range battles if it supports its gun...same for sniper..!!

Still not very convinced that such platforms are necessary, especially if the Army's Operational doctrines haven't changed to accomodate such flexible role-changes. Anyways, Thanks for your replies. You do have a point.

Our army is already supporting 2 types of ammo -- 7.62 and 5.56 mm with 2 different rifles -- AK-47 and INSAS respectively. Switching to 1 rifle(performing the same job as ak 47 and insas) is always a better economic option to army.
