What's new

Modi visiting Lahore today

Next i feel Obama and Kerry would laud NaMo and say Indian PM went out of the way to take peace process forward.. The senate would toast the "PM of this decade" title and say India has proved its worth and Indian PM NaMo is a statesman..

Here are the new redrafted agreements (LSA, CISMOA, etc etc) .. Pls sign and take delivery of F35s, Predator, Avengers, etc etc.... Also tell us what else you want?

The same newspaper would also say efforts are being made to let Obama admin transfer 8 F16s and $900 Mn military aid but issues and opinions have divided the senate.. The passing agreement may need some more time for more "intensive " discussions..

On a lighter note i like one thing really, at least NaMo went and met Nawaz bhai in his home.. Last man who did such a thing was AB Vajpayee (a very gentleman).. Perhaps Pakistani awaam should question continous patronage of Congress leaders like Mani Shankar Aiyer /Salman Khurshid etc whose party spokesperson said today this
'PM's Adventures Will Have Serious Implications', Says Congress On Lahore Drop-In

Expect next series of stories with

Barkha Dutt expressing deep intolerance for being kept out of loop

Aiyar writing a article with hifi English saying how a lahore visit is a waste and how a Congress PM visiting would have made a bigger difference..

Rahul "pappu" Gandhi will say Modi has sold India to pakistan (match fixed for T20)

Kejriwal would say Modi should first meet me and then should have met Nawaz Sharif.. It shows Modi is afraid of me..

I like the way your mind works! You couldn't be more prophetic!

Few Observations

1. Uncle SAM has indeed encouraged India to be more mature in their outlook towards Pakistan. There are indeed major and neigh unsolvable problems b/w us but not talking is not gonna solve anything. I think Modi has understood this facet of leadership that one has to keep up the facade of engagement even when it amounts to zilch.

I underscored this point earlier to @Bang Galore @Aminroop @MilSpec who were endorsing the complete disengagement policy of NDA Govt a few months back and I predicted that it ain't gonna last.

2. Modi has a aspirations towards becoming a Global Leader, I can even say an obsession which has not been seen in an Indian leader since Nehru. This obsession of Nehru costed India dearly - hope Modi doesn't make the same Mistakes by sacrificing National Interest on the altar of personal ambition. ( Hinting towards Logistic Agreements with US)

3. Expect a short term combined offensive by all oppsition political parties, but thankfully no consequential elections immediately on the horizon.

4. I have a hunch that India would join international coalitions in near term either in Afganishtan or even farther away. May be purely in a supportive and passive capacity but there will be some Indian boots on the ground.

This visit will be called successful if ordinary Indians like me are able to go to lahore as a visitor to dine at lahore food street ;)

Peace initiative are good but PM has to tell indian public what has suddenly changed why this U turn and so much bonhomie suddenly ?

compelling theory this but slightly off in timing. I think Modi became the global leader an year ago...he has simply thought himself to be that through sheer silence. When silent, people imagine it is a strong signal for whatever they imagine it to be for. And if it so happens that something goes right after, well tey then attribute it to the silent strategy. This by no means is unintended - I have seen a few great ones employ this by design.

So now we have a bunch of tier-1 BJP leaders running around chattering and squabbling ...Modi Doval and Parrikkar are getting it done.

Nawas Sharieff has surprised the heck out of me in the past 6 months - he has learnt the game of silence as well - he is however not as trusted as Modi, due to the Rahil Sherief worshippers.

I am not sure it is some sudden 'bonhomie'; at best a tentative 'thaw'. I believe Pakistan's own star has risen considerably since the lows of 2013 (and before). There are unmistakable gains in economy, security, and even international relations. CPEC came as another major boost. The defeat of Imran Khan's agitation in 2014 gave a big boost to Pakistan's stability and political credentials.

And it is several years since the Mumbai massacre--so enough water has flowed under the bridges of Ravi (and Ganges)...

Maybe there is some 'track two' diplomacy, trying to pick up where Musharraf-Manmohan left off about a decade ago.

In short, had Pakistan not turned a corner there wouldn't be this visit. Still a most welcome thaw.

Guys who wanted to know what food was served to him, well here it was: :azn:

PM Narendra Modi's favourite dish 'Saag' was among other vegetarian delicacies prepared for him during a lunch-cum-dinner at Jati Umrah residence of his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif.

"All dishes, including Saag, daal and vegetable food, were cooked in desi ghee," PTI quoted a source in the Jati Umra as saying.

Kashmiri tea was also presented to the Indian premier.

No matter what Pakistan and India has to resolve their issue as Pakistan and india is the only place in this world where both Pakistanis and indains will feel at home and will not face RACISM.For too long the white skin has shed our and our incestors blood.

bro please no bla bla enough of this scrap c-17 choppers and all this scrap no need showoff. when you have a single image or news link come talk to me. its not airshow of IAF its pakistan. we have hosted all of vvip and no problem to handle indians also . this fanboy of defence forum not work in real life .
Its got nothing to do with "showing off" or creating an 'airshow" but protecting the PM of India and the Indian agencies have shown they will take any measures to do so. Look at Modi's visits to Nepal, Fiji, Sri Lanka, Marituas, Seychelles etc- sifgnificant Indian assets were deployed for the PM's safety.

Look at the POTUS's security arrangments, it won't be long before the Indian PM has similar arragnments for when he/she travels abroad, it is only logical.

lol bro foreign visitors are allowed to buy from whiskey from Pakistan too, so not worry on that front :enjoy:

agreed...however more in terms of civilian leadership than nations itself...a strong Pakistan but weak civilian leadership still cannot deliver on anything as far as engagement with india is concerned....no??
