Modi to spend INR350m to mark 50th anniversary of 1965 Indo-Pak war!

In 1965 Pakistan fought well and managed to withdraw Indian forces and PAF also punched above its weight that time.

But that war wasn't a Victory for Pakistan, we started the war with Operation Gibraltar to capture Kashmir and we ended up defending Lahore instead .

If we consider only defending Lahore a victory then our standard of 'Victory' is pretty damn low, IMO.

That war would've been a victory had we managed to capture Kashmir + Defend Lahore .
IMO it was a stalemate. Naturally India being the larger nation with a numerical advantage was going to capture more land than us. But it wasn't a defeat for us. Both nations had their ups and downs in this war.

IMO, our best chance of capturing Kashmir was during the 1962 on going Sino-India war, when Indian Army was getting humiliated..

I wonder why we didn't attack IOK that time, why did we resist?? Only to go at a Full fledged war with India 3 years later?

Golden Chance missed !! I doubt we'll ever get such a chance again , Ever !

No! your best chance was in 1965 but your one calculation got wrong that Kashmiris will revolt in Pakistan's favour but the kashmiris supported India.

If Indians are happy for wasting so much money on celebrating invented history, we have no problems with that. It is their money to waste.

Expect them to spend 500 million on celebrating first moon or Jupiter landing by Vedic Indians.

This fanatical populism promoted by Modi is not going to solve any of the dire social problems, which is plaguing India.

As usual, our army was caught napping and enjoying the scenic beauty of Kashmir, when Pakistan attacked. Since India did not start the war, hence Indian Army did not have any specific objective to begin with.

Indian objective was to defend India and capture as much land as possible to use as a bargaining chip, which India did, i.e. captured around 1800 sq.km land. It is 3 times more than what Pakistan captured.

Lahore was one of the many such places that Indian Army wanted to capture. It failed, but the overall objective was a success. It helped India during negotiations as well.

not only lahore you tried to capture sialkot too you forget tank battle at chawinda where you ran away like pusy cats  i wonder why you couldnt capture lahore we were having very less army and artillery on lahore border area still you couldnt capture lahore  and on sindh rajastan border our local tribal army fucked you guys badly in desert too :sniper: .

The capture of the Kishangarh in Rajasthan State India took place during the 1965 War between India and Pakistan. Its capture was one of the most important actions of the Desert Theater in that war and one of the finest examples of the use of local militia in the history of the Sub-Continent.

and we ended up defending lahore :rofl:

What sort of commemoration is Pakistan arranging?

May be PM Modi sahib felt that he had some making up to do for that statement of his,“Earlier, you felt ashamed of being born Indian, now you feel proud to represent the country."

It was made during his visit to China.
Similar sort of wordings were heard from him during his visit to Seoul.

“There was a time when people used to say we don’t know what sins we committed in our past life that we were born in Hindustan."

Now is the time, you must start feeling proud of your smashing victory during the 1965 war.A gentleman he is, as his actions speak louder than his words.

Guess what you are not so lucky as you are already a samller nation :)[/QUOTE]
Was saving Lahore the objective of 1965 war ? Now I'm interested, because I want to know what Pakistanis have been told.

The war of 1965 had two parts, Operation Gibraltar, with the objective of pushing army-trained mujaheddin into Kashmir valley who will sabotage key installations, disguised as locals and Operation Grand Slam, the Pakistani military offensive, supported by armored columns, regular troops and heavier weapons, artillery and airforce.

The plan was handiwork of the then foreign minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, who, I personally think never had the patience and lack foresight to be a good leader, among many other things. He was aided by his secretary Aziz Ahmed. They convinced the then COAS, Gen Ayub Khan.
There was an issue in Srinagar, related to a holy relic (hair of Prophet Mohammad), which had disappeared in late 1963. Pakistani leadrship thought the Spring of 1965 to be the perfect time to launch an offensive.

The idea, juvenile in planning and lacklustre in execution was doomed from the very beginning as local Kashmiri people did not rebel against India, instead, informed the Indian Army about ongoing infiltration. The war lasted a few weeks and ended with India gaining 1800 sq. km of land while Pakistan held about one-third of the same. Interesting again to note, most of the Indian gains were in the plains of Punjab, while Pakistan had gained some marsh lands and some barren mountains in Kashmir. Also, Indian Army placed itself very close to Lahore, which was well within the range of Indian Artillery.

Now, tell me, if the initial objective of capturing whole Kashmir and reaching Srinagar, gets reversed to somehow saving Lahore, within just two weeks, will you still call it a victory ?

In my books, completion of objective is victory, no less. If in your book, a total reversal from being aggressive to being defensive is victory, then you may have it, no issues.

I think that would be a very kind gesture from Nawaz Sharif. It will also be a way of returning the favour of inviting a country's premier in style. What more, it will be an offer Modi will not be able to refuse!!

1800 sq, km, 1800 sq. km, 1800 sq. km. bas kr yar.
where was this 1800 sq.km. But anywayz strange u have suddenly realized after 50 years that u might have won.

you can put it this way that we set an objective too ambitious or too big but setting this kind of objective against a country multiple times bigger than u does take some nerves to set. There were some mistakes committed by us in the war. otherwise we might have faired very well. Being ambitious is good.
