Gujarat govt announces three crore more for Uttarakhand

Even as the relief teams of Gujarat led by 11 IAS officers are working for the last six days in flood-ravaged Uttarakhand, Chief Minister Narendra Modi here today announced ex-gratia payment of Rs.2-lakh to the next of the kin of each person who died in the tragedy.

Addressing a high-level meeting of disaster management here to take stock of the situation in the hill state, he said that about 6,000 pilgrims from Gujarat have already come back, while another 2,500 are on the way and the remaining about 100 persons still stranded there are being contacted for their safe return.

The Gujarat Government’s Relief Camp started at Hardwar proved quite helpful to the pilgrims who were brought back home in chartered planes, private luxury buses and trains. The Gujarat team headed by Relief Commissioner would continue to work there till required.

Mr. Modi reiterated his government’s stand of extending all possible assistance, including medical staff, medicines and other provisions, to the people of Uttarakhand in their hour of tragedy. He also announced Rs.3-crore from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for the victims in Uttarakhand, in addition to Rs.2-crore he had announced on the first day.

He appealed to the people of Gujarat to generously donate to the CM’s Relief Fund, collect necessary household kits for the flood-hit and send them as early as possible through relief trains. He directed District Collectors of the State to coordinate and this humanitarian task.

The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Varesh Sinha, CM’s Chief Principal Secretary K. Kailashnathan, Revenue Principal Secretary D.J. Pandian, CM’s Principal Secretary G.C. Murmu and Additional Principal Secretary A.K. Sharma.

Please. He ignored advice of Home Ministry not to visit there.. If his aerial survey was rejected, it would been another political blame game..


As for a normal guy like me, it was a political stunt which backfired.. But as @Bang Galore mentioned, his followers will not mind it all..

I told many time in this forum that its unfortunate that we do not have a third choice rather than congress and BJP.. For me they are two sides of a coin.. A man who hired Apco Worldwide does not ask for media coverage right? are you kidding??

I can appreciate the good work mate.. I respect the military for their hardworkk.. They are trying their best to help people.. There was a post in our @KRAIT FB profile asking for SUVs to help people.There are lot of oraganisatons who work there.. There are lot of members here donated money to help the victims.. There are lot more people in India who are working selflessly for those people. I respect people like that.. Not some politician who uses a natural disaster to boost his image..

You cant expect a third choice brother,That will ruin this country to even worse.Two sides of a coin, yes we should make it a habit of electing like TN and USA do, if one doesn't perform then choose the other.But we also have to pass the laws that whatever development projects which were undertaken during the Ex-Regime has to be completed by the present government not discarding those projects and then they can claim their own projects. I also HATE this shuffling of IAS/IPS officers around according to whims and fancies of government in power.In All we should have a state and national debate without the cussing and coming to blows , but rational logical answers where the viewers can choose who they want(No TRP OR SMS manipulation there)

Mate for me, it only shows that with the right PR group, you can do wonders.. And his popularity in Internet will not be a criteria to become a PM of India..

There is a thing called Sarcasmm...

actually, there is nothing wrong in RG going to these places while at the same time denying the same possibilities to Modi. RG is the head (VP) of the organization that (Congress) is managing the relief. The CEO/ VP of a company shouldn't visit his own projects? He doesn't have to extend modi the same courtesy either- it is his job, not modi's to manage the activities. He can let others come in when he thinks it's more settled.
