That does it....I'm gonna have to look up Modi....have not a clue who he is (besides some political Indian figure) (a lot of threads on him....for a while thought it was an old king or religious figure)

Erm he's accused of inaction or not doing enough to prevent the riots which he may or may not have. Hard to tell since neither of them is proven.

But, right now he's stealing lime lights as an opposition's most likely candidate for Prime Minister and the development he has done in his state. Much higher growth rate then rest of the country, better infrastructure, much more FDI investment than national average, much more industrial output and the only state in the country which has saw double digit growth in agriculture.

Right now majority of people seem to like him since he actually does something.

I dont think he even applied. What was told was "if he were to apply, then they might not give". It was twisted out of context to portray as if he applied and it was denied.

And anyway, the reason why Modi was apparently denied was because pro-Christian right pressured Bush on account of Modi's crackdown on the fringe evangelist groups that were proselytising in the tribal areas of Gujarat. Nothing to do with Gujarat riots considering that US has literally killed or caused the death of a million muslims in the last 10 years.

Narendra Modi shall not be granted US visa, says American official | NDTV.com


Washington: A top American official has opposed the grant of visa to Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi because of the "very serious" doubts that remain over his role in the "horrific" 2002 riots in Gujarat.

"Modi shall not be granted the privilege of US visa because of the very serious doubts that remain and that hang over Modi relative to his role in the horrific events of 2002 in Gujarat," said Katrina Lantos Swett, vice chairwoman of the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom.

The bipartisan government commission reviews the facts and circumstances of religious freedom violations and makes policy recommendations to the US President, the secretary of State and Congress.

"There are many, many unanswered questions that remain, there are at are many grave allegations, there are huge doubts," she was quoted as saying by the New York Times.

When asked about the possibility of Mr Modi's nomination as the BJP's prime ministerial candidate for the next Lok Sabha polls, she said, "It is no outside nation's or no individual's role to tell them who should be the next leader of India."

"For the people of India, I think it is important for them to consider very carefully who it is who they want to be their next prime minister," she added.

In 2005, the US denied Mr Modi a diplomatic visa and revoked his existing tourist/business visa under the Immigration and Nationality Act, which makes a foreign government official who is responsible for particularly severe violations of religious freedom ineligible for an American visa, the NYT said.

"Obviously what happened in 2002 in Gujarat was sectarian violence on a really massive scale. I don't think you can say that that wasn't a religious issue. It was a religious issue and the 2005 visa denial harks back to that," she said.

Mr Modi has been lobbying hard to get the decision reversed. (Ehhh...didn't you guys say he didn't care)

During a recent visit to the US, BJP president Rajnath Singh had said he would request for a review of visa ban on Mr Modi.

When pointed out that courts have not yet found any evidence of Mr Modi's involvement in the 2002 riots, Ms Swett said: "Certainly in our system of justice you can be found not guilty, which is not the same thing as found innocent."

"Under these circumstances we should follow our laws, which say that we should not give a visa. Of course Modi wants us to reverse our position because that would be part of his rehabilitation process," she said.

"One of the things that concern us is that Modi seems more concerned with rehabilitating his own reputation than with providing recompense and rehabilitation for the surviving victims of those terrible events," she added.

LoL i'm here back in hyderabad, and when i went to a punjabi restaurant which is quite popular in my locality where i stay hyderabad mind you.cos every place has their own speciality. Someone asked him "aap pyaaz diye kya"(did you give onions extra.Its' customary in hyderabad to give sherwa,salan,dahi ,nimbu,pyaaz).He was saying to another customer daily consumption is 125 kgs of onion and i have to pay 5000 rs for free onion, where can i afford it?

Bam comes his next viewpoint while i was waiting for my biryani parcel (as we say it here takeaway in hyderabad.).

Man- an american Visa usually takes exactly one hour to approve (and a few days to send over after). Why is it sooooooo difficult that something I have, you have, most ppl in the forum have, most BJP leaders have...is soooo difficult for Modiji to get really beats me.

I dont think it is very difficult to comprehend what this is about, and I do suspect you are smarter than you are claiming in this post as you are unable to figure out why modi cant get a US visa. When Modi is a single candidate which has the UPA gov't pants on fire, they are going to play this godhra card as long as they can. And what exactly is your deal with modi?

I dont really care if it's modi or gandhi, upa or nda, all are alike when it comes bungling national interests, but singling out Modi is only going to promote him.

Although OT... and sorry about the language but NDA kuch nahi Ukhhad legi, The rot in the system is so deep, and the corruption is so severely rampant in all quadrants, the standard operating procedure for politicians and buruecrats has become "Inaction".

Inaction - in foreign policy, anti-corruption, judiciary, law and order, governance, development, tax enforcement, all round nothingness has filled up the sphere. Because action means responsibility and tracebility... This culture has pushed India and it's potential atleast 30 yrs back and Modi is not the solution to this.

There are no instant fixes, and if you are expecting that from Namo, then you are in for a huge disappointment, If elected I think he will do better than most of the others, but still the country will be as dysfunctional as it is right now.

On the other hand when it comes to rahul gandhi, any chimp can do the job better...
