Modi govt to reinstall Veer Savarkar's plaque at Andaman jail

The British was so convinced of Veer Savarkar's "loyalties" that he was given a permanent Sikh Police "body guard" :P

Maybe Savarkar was supposed to keep an eye on the Sikh policeman and report to the British govt. :D

Here is a picture of Veer Savarkar With wife Sau. Yamunabai (Mai), daughter Prabhat, son Vishwas.

Savarkar’s foreign propaganda (publishing articles, still extant, in foreign newspapers and meeting revolutionaries of other countries) gave swift results. August 24, 1907, Madam Cama, as a delegate representing India, waved the flag of independent India in the International Socialist Conference and gave a fiery speech. The Kaiser of Germany in his reply to President Woodrow Wilson said “absolute political independence of India was one of the indispensable conditions of world peace.”

Savarkar sent regular newsletters to India, wrote the book Joseph Mazzini in June 1907 and Indian War of Independence, 1857, in 1908. This book was banned by the Government of India before its publication. Savarkar played tag with the British police to get this book published. He sent it to India packed in the covers of innocuous books.

He was probably one of best tactical minds of those times. Sadly Congress was too much into idealism. This action of Modi government will burn some hearts.

Savarkar was one of the few Hindu leaders who had made a deep study of Islam from its scriptures. He had read a translation of the Quran even while he was a student in England. In the Andamans, Savarkar had read the Quran first in its English and subsequently Bengali and Marathi translations. Responding to the opinion of his Muslim friends that the real beauty of the Quran lies in its original, Savarkar asked them to read each page from the original and then had them translate it for his benefit into Hindi. As Savarkar describes, he heard them recite the Quran with great concentration and after keeping his mind clean and pure as a devout Muslim. In later life, Savarkar read several books written by Western authorities on the Quran. Savarkar’s deep study of Islam is evident from his numerous articles such as those on Kemal Pasha, Khilafat movement and various Islamic sects. Savarkar had learnt to read and write Urdu.

People still do not understand the important thing that stating the fact of Mussulman and Hindu nations being present in Hindusthan is not to accept the Pakistani adamancy of carving a country of the Mussalmans.

You are right and you just stated an important fact.

Veer Savarkar even wrote Urdu Gazals. This is the original book written by him, now in a museum.

When a fantasy history book like "discovery of India" finds and important place in our works because it was written by "pandit" Nehru, while a scholarly work like this which was banned by the British is ignored because a Hindu wrote it.

When the chinese call us "white man's slave", there is more than an element of truth in it. We are yet to free ourself from the propaganda and learn to think for ourself.

Stonewalled on the Re-Search For Savarkar -The New Indian Express

Damle.jpg

MUMBAI: Chicago-based retired public relations professional Shridhar Damle has devoted his post retirement life in researching Veer Savarkar’s contribution to India’s freedom struggle and his contacts abroad. An ardent Savarkar follower, Damle received valuable information for his study in the US, UK and France. However, Maharashtra Police have thrown a spanner in his works.

For the past three years, Damle has been trying to access several files pertaining to Savarkar, which are in the Maharashtra government’s custody. Earlier, he got a clearance from then home minister R R Patil and current Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, but police have refused to allow him access to the files.

Savarkar was born on May 28, 1883. He was a pro-Independence activist, politician, poet, writer and playwright. He advocated dismantling the caste system and reconversion of converted Hindus back to Hinduism and created the term ‘Hindutva’. He died on February 26, 1966.

Damle has been researching Savarkar to write a book on him. He has photo copies of around 40,000 pages on Savarkar from the archives in the US, UK and France. The pages contain some confidential records as well.

“It is very easy to get information even though it is confidential in foreign countries but not in Maharashtra,” Damle told The Sunday Standard. “Rules say every record should be made public after 26 years. Police officers interviewed me four times when I sought permission to access the files. They asked me some ridiculous questions like why I wanted the information, how will it change the common people’s life, what was the guarantee that I will use it for writing a book. I am tired of their attitude,” he says.

Damle studied and grew in Mumbai but later settled in US and worked as a public relations officer for a multi-national bank. He comes to India for three months every year for his study. He has gathered piles of information on Savarkar from 1911 to 1943. The records have revealed several unknown facts on him and his activities abroad.

The confidential records shows that Savarkar was caught by two Indian soldiers in the British Army in France when he had an epic leap from British custody in the French port of Marseilles in July 1910. The British government had lied in the international court that the French police had arrested Savarkar and later handed over him to them,” Damle says.

According to him, one of the Indian soldiers was from Savarkar’s hometown, Nashik. He was chosen because he recognised Savarkar. The other soldier was to keep a watch on his colleague in arms.

Damle wants to access records from 1943 to 1956, a very crucial period before and after Independence. He believes that there are several unknown facts hidden in the post-1943 files. They include details on Savarkar’s meetings with Subhash Chandra Bose, the then king of Nepal and Adolf Hitler’s banking advisor as well as relations between Savarkar and Mohammad Ali Jinnah.

Hitler’s banking advisor had called on Savarkar in 1941 at his residence in Bombay (now Mumbai). Intelligence Bureau officers had sent a report of this meeting to their superiors. This report is a part of the Savarkar files in the government’s custody. If I could access them, they will reveal whether Hitler was in touch with Savarkar before World War II,” Damle says.

“Some people have told me that Hitler’s advisors had intimated Savarkar about a possible war between Germany and England. He had advised Savarkar to manufacture planes and arms in India. Of course, this is hearsay. The proof lies in those files,” Damle adds.

He has obtained a confidential report from Washington on a near miss meeting between Savarkar and Jinnah. The report states that Savarkar and Jinnah were to discuss the fallout of partition, but both refused to visit each other’s places. The report quotes Savarkar writing to Jinnah, “We great leaders should not be childish”.

Damle believes that the police might have refused him access to files fearing that he would obtain information on Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination, which might lead to another controversy. “All records pertaining to Gandhiji’s killing are available with the Kapoor Commission, which had conducted an investigation into it. I want to study Savarkar’s appeal to the Navy for a mutiny and what was going on his mind during the partition,” Damle says.

He will return to the US on May 5. “I have extended my stay here. It is not fruitful. I will search for more records in US,” he says.

Indians are disgusting....slaves....fit to be ruled.

Savarkar fought to turn those sheeps into Lions, so it would be a betrayal to his memory if one was to give up hope.

There are many firsts for Swatantryaveer Savarkar.

It is ironic to see a Sikh mock Savarkar. While in London Veer Savarkar took the trouble to learn Gurmukhi and made detailed study of Adi Granth, Suraj Prakash, Vichitra Natak and other Sikh scriptures.

Did Gandhi or Nehru do that ?

Savarkar wrote a well researched book on the History of Sikhs.

In 1910 Veer Savarkar was sent to fifty years imprisonment in the Andaman (Kalapani), a sentence unparalleled in the history of the British Empire. He was not allowed to read or write, so what did he do? He constructed Guru Govind Singh's biography in poems. But why Guru Govind Singh? Savarkar explains "I chose Guru Govind Singh because during the struggle against the Mughals, he lost his mother, wife and his four sons, he was even betrayed by some of his own people and yet this great Guru accepted his fate and suffered these catastrophes with magnanimity. I wanted to obtain the courage to survive through the ordeal of fifty years of Kalapani by remembering how the great Guru faced the calamities which fell upon him". During the eleven years of Kalapani, Savarkar celebrated the birthday of Guru Govind Singh every year. At the end of that day Karaprasad would be distributed. Once Savarkar even organised a strike to ensure that the Sikh prisoners were given palatable (not salty) water and soap to wash their hair and some oil to keep their hair tidy.

While still in prison, Savarkar published his famous book Hindutva in 1923. He wrote . . . really if any community in India is Hindu beyond cavil or criticism, it is our Sikh brotherhood in Punjab. Brave Sikhs placed their heads by the hundreds under the executioner's axe, rather than disown their Guru or religion. Their great champion Guru Teg Bahadur laid down his life for the cause of Hindu liberation in Punjab . . . his illustrious son Govind, the poet, the prophet and the warrior of our Hindu race explains in Vichitra Natak, . . . "May this Khalsa panth flourish everywhere, so that long may Hindu Dharma live and all falsehood vanish".

Veer Savarkar writes: "great Guru had chosen the Khalsa of distinct identity as a band of the best and the bravest of the Hindu Race". He proudly said, "The Sikh of today is the Hindu of yesterday and the Hindu of today may be the Sikh of tomorrow". Sikh Gurus he said were children of Hindus.

When Savarkar went to Amritsar, he was honoured in the Golden Temple by the SGPC (Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee).Today the same Punjabi AAPtards mock Savarkar and call him a coward. How far has the apple fallen from the Tree ? :disagree:

Once again in January 1952, during the Sikh hindu dispute, Tara Singh a.k.a Masterji declared "we will accept Savarkar's decision in the current Hindu-Sikh dispute".

AAPtards are communists .... they even hate our flawed constitution and the indian state.

You know...after meeting AAPtards one realizes what kind of people (indians) Sawarkar was up against.
