“Modi is the hero of Hindus and that’s why his name is being taken up by the Hindus. What’s wrong with him leading the country,” asked senior VHP leader Ashok Singhal on Sunday.

Pitching for Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as a prime ministerial candidate, Singhal told Express that “the country furiously supports him”.

Speaking at a press conference here, Singhal evaded queries on who would be the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate in the 2014 general elections.

“It is up to the BJP to take a decision in this regard,” he said.

However, the VHP leader said: “People of the country support Narendra Modi and everywhere leaders are talking about him leading the country.”

He said the nation needed a Hindu Prime Minister who valued India’s ‘strong traditions’. On whether Modi fits the bill, the VHP leader asked: “What’s wrong with him leading the country?”

Stating that Hindutva is the future of the country and Parliament, Singhal said a Hindu government will be a secular and nationalist government, taking up national issues. “The country needs a Hindu revolution. The Hindu community is the third largest community in the world. We need a Hindu Parliament,” he said.

Singhal said Communism and its ideologies are losing ground in Kerala. “The government should hand over the temples in the state to Hindus,” he demanded.

“When we demand that temples be given to Hindus, there should not be any cow slaughtering and the Ganga river be clean, what is so fundamentalistic in it,” he asked. The VHP is taking up a major initiative to rebuild Ram temple at Ayodhya, Singhal said referring to the ‘Sreerama nama japa yajnam’ to be organised from April 11 to May 13.

“We need to rebuild the Ram temple. The move is aimed at bringing unity among Hindus. All major organisations are taking part in the move,” he added

Now we are making this a South-North issue, aren't we??

Have we forgotten how he won the election??

Case is still pending in Madras HC.

Did you see the "but" there.... The meaning of the but is the same.... all know how he won the election... and more over he is corrupt (but some how is not got caught yet)...... Please do not have any idea of south vs north... not at least in my mind...

Hope somebody does a palace coup in Congress Party and removes the Gandhis from their thrones.

I seriously hope.... but may be our grandchildren have the luck to see that day....

When I was in gujarat, MODI ordered the removal of temples which sprung up in the middle of the road and caused hardships to motorists. Now i thought it wouldnt happen in a hindu majority state like Gujarat. I read in the news paper he removed 1000's of such temples...Thats why Modi is famous in gujarat, not because he is Hindu. He stands for development and acts on what he promises.

RSS is opposed to Modi because the group sees its ideology highjacked by Modi in a new style that looks less extreme but its the same.

Not really. That part is pretty clear now. Once Modi became powerful, he dispensed with the VHP, taking them to task and undercutting any power that they might have had. The RSS was ignored when they tried to intervene and there has been a cold war ever since. Modi sees the RSS & the VHP as trying to interfere in his domain & he has no intention of tolerating that. It is why the RSS would be very happy not to have Modi in the picture.

.
If he becomes PM, that would mark the beginning of the end of the Indian Union as we know of it. But his chances are extremely bleak

I think you find thats the reason why i want modi to become PM.........The BJP can lay the foundation for the break up of india through its ideology.
Its a bit like the mullahs getting real power in pakistan.....you know, down the line it will lead to disaster.

very right.

its the same they are at war with each for own interests NOT due to any clash of ideology.

their ideology is the same. but way of implementing is different.

many hindus believes minorities must be shown their limit(aukaad). and MODI - is seen as the best tool. hindus are convinced about this fellow as a great man! secretly, many (north Indian)hindus are happy about the massacre he did in 2002.

we, who whine about jihadis being trained in neighbouring countries and madrassas used for radicalism, completely ignore the part where RSS,VHP and Bajrangi are common scene all over India Temple grounds and institutions see training camps and membership drives.
I have personally observed chaddi and stick wearing oldmen(RSS) from north India training young kids martial training and later systematic brainwashing.
one of the key element is Golwalkar's and Hegdewars teaching. that include clubbing christianity and judaism along with islam and calling these ase mleccha religions(abrahamic) and later, those who follow foreign religions are dhimmis in this land and they are at the mercy of local population whether to be culled or not -- goes on. Hindu by no means is peaceful as perceived. invasion from islamicc has turned it into similar to islam in aggression.

I believe, Hindutva PM will want to crush minorities especially christians as modi will pee in his pants if he again try his hands on muslims of India(anywhere between 18carore to 21carore in numbers).
