MoD mulls downsizing Rafale contract

rafale at 110 million a piece is too costly... this is the same price for fgfa.
why opt for a 4.5 generation plane when we can go for 5th generation for same cost.... i would say IAF should opt for sukhoi 35 the best and cheap....
french are looting us.... and why do india think they can't make their own engine ... have same expert from the multinationals and make them make it, or reverse engineer a sukhoi engine or an LCA engine....we can know more tech if we play cool...but we try to to play sane and keep falling in pits dug by other....

as per the other sources GoI mulls to increase defence budget... have to wait for official statement. .. but .sure IAF wants 126+ not 126- ...
Me too few days back nexus btw armlobist's and media was uncovered the thread was there in the pdf itself I don't think IAF will agree they are dying to get these planes

20 billion for this junk? Plz dont sign the deal...go for Typhoon and become a real partner to a plane that suports many European nations, if not the US plane. Rafael has never seen any major action and no foreign sales have been recorded.
IF This rarely true ,Saab Offer in development of LCA projects is looking more Sanable now to me.

Had everything been so easy, there would have been human settlement in moon right now. Don't behave like a jingoistic bot.

It was always about minimum squadron strength ,how credible is this source ?

80 is about 4 squadrons too less , if their wont be extended orders.

Who told you FGFA is 110 million a piece they do not even built a prototype yet.there is a reason IAF cuts it's order down by the time it will get operational you will see a huge cost escalations.the amount of tech Iaf wants ain't come so cheap sir

how do u think chinese are able to built so many things of their own..... do u think indians are less capable...
its not me but u behaving like a jingoistic bot.... man had foot prints on moon and that too in 70's.. so don't downsize human effort of writing his own destiny...

Sir ji cost will rise with every passing year you see it in MMRCA and you will se it in FGFA the whole project will cost Almost 50 bln by the time FGFA get operational you can take it in writing from me.

ya, it will but not in the way cost has risen for this plane.... indian economy has remained constant for last 3 years... we haven't crossed the even 2 trillion mark..which was predicted to cross in 2012.. at current time we can't afford this deal.. we don't have so much money.... incase of fgfa the cost may rise to 150 million a piece but I am sure the time we start inducting those planes our economy will be large enough to absorb the shock....

You took everything of it's face value, isn't? Even F-35 was supposed to be priced at $80 million, before swelling up to $235 million per piece. And you're routing for the price of an aircraft which doesn't even have a production model yet.

Even the Chinese struggled for 2 decades to make a working jet engine, what makes you think Indians are special or better than the rest?

Being a scientist (of much lesser grade, of course), we know how much delays some simple change in parameters can cause. It's very easy to sit behind a computer, and rant on 'We can do this, we can do that', rather than going out and doing it.

Sir we have few more projects if you remember such As Amca will also cost Us huge money if we make it a by ourselves just like in LCA are plan to Induct it in same time frame of FGFA or year later plus Indegenous Nuclear power AC and SSBN's sir we have have so much in hand that it will be a hurrculian task for MOD to pull out these ambitious project all at once what is yours opinion?

Sir it will come down 80 million-120 million after full scale production will start for more than 2 000 aircrafts with huge American industrial base.

By the economy of scales, and taking into inflation into account. One had to be very optimistic to expect the price to come down below $160 million, given the recent order cuts.

Yeah your figure looking realistic to me I was think same I was to wondering about 80 -120 million figure my self before posting it:p:p:p

20 Billion USD, when translated into actuality = 7 Arihant type nuke submarines.....

Its big money for India which should give priority to its own manufacturing (defense) activities and save money on such humongous purchases....

India does not print hard currency. While US makes all its money by selling USD to 216 countries of the world.
It costs just 5 cents to print one 100 USD note/bill....
Too bad for India (UPA) which did this.
Good that its being revised by Modi who is more pragmatic.

Good decision overall in the national interest, which were lacking big time during the past GOI headed by white/foreigner...
