MoD backs indigenous HAL trainer, air force to visit HAL for discussions

The HTT 34 had just an engine upgrade and lacked all the features a new gen trainer would've had, like a Tandem cockpit..

Thats the mock up of HTT 40,then HTT 35 back in 1990. Why didn't HAL actually make an example? IAF is a customer, not a developer. They are interested in finished products, not proposals or ideas.

Because that time hal didn't have money to proceed.
This time they are paying from their own pocket. If it ready in 2018,iaf can take it otherwise they can import it.
But why scuttle it by asking for scrap?

Because pilots need urgent training...............they simply can't wait for another 4 years.....sorry man i beg to differ on this

HAL have or not having money wasn't/isn't IAF's problem.
Had they had a flying example of the a/c,there would've been a point in waiting. Now,it would be criminal to ask IAF to wait till 2018,while they do have other easy options.

what other options? Pc-7 delivery complete only by 2017.

I suppose the total requirement of basic trainers was 180+ piees. With 75 in various stages of delivery, may be we should increase the order by another 50 pieces, to have a fleet of 125 and perhaps by then we can take a call on if HTT 40 should be looked into or not. However given that HAL hasn't been able to fulfill its promises (Sitara for example), IAF can't be made to wait indefinitely and has all rights to look into other options.

agreed on this one...........HAL has nothing to show except models of its planes:devil:

Pc 7 was the option that I was talking about. Complete delivery by 2017 is a good rate. Don't know whether the HAL aircraft will fly by 2014 atleast.

if hal ac didn't fly, isn't it goodthing for iaf to import.
Why did iaf ask mod to scrap it now?

First part of your sentence is little confusing bro,
May be IAF meant HAL shall not expect any order from them. HAL can pursue it as a private project any time.

simply put, iaf didn't want product. It is ok.
But chief himself writing to mod to scrap htt with a fraud logic is unacceptle.

What a shame.

Even Turkey has tested its TAI Hurkus trainer successfully. Turkey is such a new player in the market and has already raced ahead. While HAL with all their big boasts and sarkari status cannot even get a basic trainer ready till now. HTT-40 should have been the first step towards making the Tejas.

HAL and ADA have gone backwards in order.

IAF, People have almost 0% confidence on the words of HAL/ADA. If India wants to compete in the defense market, without any delay private players must be introduced/encouraged in the defense sector, else forget to compete. Govt Firms/employees, always take the time for granted, which i have once experienced in Avadi tank Factory(always they will do chit-chat, relaxing). Still we don't have a major private defense player, TATA,Mahindra should be encouraged, they can manufacture equipments which we are manufacturing under license, in very low cost than DRDO/HAL.

Most of the govt firms, planning & execution are so pathetic. Our company had partnership with CDOT in developing GPON technologies, a bug was identified,to clear the bug CDOT asked for a time-line of 3months, in the end our engineers resolved the bug in just 2days.
