Military Transport Aircraft sugestion for BAF post 2025

The modern Primary trainers technology suggests that there is no need for an Intermediate Jet Trainer (IJT). For Example: US Air Force has retired all their T-37 tweets and T-34 Mentors and replaced them with T-6 Texan 2 (US version of Pilatus PC-9).

So far I know, BAF is planning for same. In fact BAF is in the process of acquiring the kind of Primary Trainers that can replace the aging PT-6 and IJT T-37.

Bro. Quite interesting Information you have given can you explain it in details and Can some senior member shed some light as well. Please.!!!!

Options we have and their first date of service entry:

1. Airbus A400M- 2009
2. Alenia C-27J Spartan - 2008
3. AVIC Y-9 - 2008
4. CASA C-295 - 1998
5. Antonov AN-70 - 1994
6. Boeing C-17 GlobemasterIII - 1991
7. CASA CN-235 - 1983
8. Antonov AN-72 - 1977
9. Antonov AN-32 - 1976
10. Illyushin Il-76 - 1971
11. Antonov AN-22 - 1965
12. Lockheed C-130 - 1954

Straight away I would remove the above from contention- BD doesn't need such transprts/capability.

PT-6s are going to be replaced with Yak-130s.

You must be joking, right!! PT-6 are turboprop primary trainer and YAK-130 is a super advanced Lead in Fighter Trainer. The gap is quite a bit. If I go in details then the training process goes like this:

Flight Simulator > Primary Trainer > Advanced Trainer/Primary Jet Trainer > Advanced Jet Trainer > Lead in Fighter Trainer > Fighter simulator > Fighter Trainer > Fighter Aircraft

Bangladesh air force follows the highlighted pattern now. The primary Trainer is PT-6, Primary Jet trainer is T-37 tweet, Advanced Jet Trainer is L-39ZA, Lead in Fighter Trainer is the OCU (ex. FT-6 or FT-7).

Aircraft: FS > PT-6 > T-37 > L-39 > Mig-29UB > Mig-29SE

USAF Used to follow:

Flight Simulator (FS) > Primary Trainer > Primary Jet Trainer > Lead in Fighter Trainer > Fighter simulator > Fighter Trainer > Fighter Aircraft

Aircraft: FS > T-34 > T-37 > T-38 > FS > F-16D > F-16C

USAF now has adopted a much simpler process:

Flight Simulator > Primary Trainer/Advanced Trainer > Lead in Fighter Trainer > Fighter simulator > Fighter Trainer > Fighter Aircraft

Aircraft: FS > T-6 > T-38 > FS >F-16D > F-16C

If you are making this judgement based on Payload capability, then Il-76 and AN-70 both can 47 tonne cargo.. I think you would like to add AN-70 in your list as well.

However, before 1999 BD did not feel the need of a 20 tonne capable transport aircraft either, and today BAF's maximum (4 C-130B) transport aircraft has a cargo load of 20 tonnes. BAF is growing, and no. of air base has increased. During 1990 Bangladesh Air Force had 4 air fields and now they operates from more than 7 airfields. With the growing force size, the type of aircraft and BAF doctrine is also changing. So, I don't think if u should remove anything!!

he was not joking. He made a little mistake! PT6 will be replaced by Yak152 or something. I forgot! I can't google! Any google search that is related to warfare or violence is blocked ! It shows content blocked by operator. Are you guys having similar prob? I can't google ' boarding a ship ' ! Try and let me know!

We are already buying some second hand c130. Still better than anything russian.

Correction my friend!! We are not buying rather we are trying.. That deal has not been finalized yet.

Did you remember when we received the C-130Bs. It was in 2000 or 2001. and now in 2012 we are talking about C-130E to retire those C-130Bs we received in 2000. That gives you roughly 12 years of service. Thats the hard truth for Second Hand off the shelf aircraft. Yes, you can further upgrade and fly them for another 5 to 10 years with high risk and cost.

Now starting from 2012-2013 go 12 years in the future.. what year do you endup with? Yes, it is 2025-2026. on 2026 you will be looking at these options to replace your C-130Es. In this thread I am trying to see the transport aircraft options for BAF in 2026.

YAK-152 or JL-7 is just another option to replace the PT-6. Nothing has been finalized yet. So far I know, T-6 Texan 2, Hongdu Yakovlev CJ-7, YAK-152, Embraer EMB 314 Super Tucano, Pilatus PC-9 and Pilatus PC-7 is under evaluation. Nothing confirmed yet. I have also heard that BAF officials are more interested in T-6 Texan2 and Embraer EMB 314 Super Tucano where as the politicians are interested in YAK-152 and Hongdu Yakovlev CJ-7.

what u r saying is right but this is also a fact that BD is a small country(by landmass) therefore there is virtually no need for bigger planes like C-17 Globemaster or A400 M for mainly 2 reasons i think -
1. Huge Capacity of these planes won't be fully utilized by BD bcoz there is no need for big troop mobilization
2. Very expensive

. .
Zabaniya...........Noob question...Any particular country oriented weapons program of BD based on ?
