CN-235's are fine but a lot of airforces are also using military versions of civilian airplanes. Pakistan Navy uses two ATR-72's as maritime patrol aircraft.

For medium/small military transports the US standard is C-130 and C-27J spartan. The Spartan is made by Alenia in Italy and uses two of the C-130's four Allison engines. Engine standardization is a good idea to save maintenance and spares costs.

Bangladesh Air Force should not buy expensive American C-130's going forward. Better and newer alternatives are already on the scene - such as the Brazilian Embraer KC-390 and the A-400M.

The modern Primary trainers technology suggests that there is no need for an Intermediate Jet Trainer (IJT). For Example: US Air Force has retired all their T-37 tweets and T-34 Mentors and replaced them with T-6 Texan 2 (US version of Pilatus PC-9).

So far I know, BAF is planning for same. In fact BAF is in the process of acquiring the kind of Primary Trainers that can replace the aging PT-6 and IJT T-37.

I think the best aircraft as a T-37 tweet replacement is the EMBRAER 314 Super Tucano which in my opinion is a better alternative than the Pilatus PC-9 which was chosen by the IAF to sort of replace their fleet of Polish TS-11 Iskra at Kanpur. You can even use these as COIN aircraft (2nd Role in addition to training role). These can fire WVR missiles like the sidewinder and newer type smaller missiles like the R550 and the MICA.

The reason for choosing Brazilian is that we no longer have to choose the absolute cheapest solution because of cost anymore (Chinese option). We can choose a longer-lasting and more reliable option as well if needed. Buying American though is out-of-the-question nonetheless.
