Military transport aircraft are typically fixed and rotary wing cargo aircraft which are used to deliver troops, weapons and other military equipment by a variety of methods to any area of military operations around the surface of the planet, usually outside of the commercial flight routes in uncontrolled airspace. Originally derived from bombers, military transport aircraft were used for delivering airborne forces during the Second World War and towing military gliders. Some military transport aircraft are tasked to performs multi-role duties such as aerial refueling and, tactical, operational and strategic airlifts onto unprepared runways, or those constructed by engineers.

Bangladesh Air Force started its Transport flights well with two Ex-Indian Air Force abandoned aircraft: Duglas Dacota and DHC-3 Otter. Letter on included a An-24 retiring the two Ex-indian aircraft. The need for a good transport aircraft has experienced 2 An-26 then and now BAF operates 4 C-130B Hercules and 3 AN-32 Clines. They are now talking with the US to get 4 off the shelf C-130E to replace the aging C-130B from fleet. But these acquisitions are not future proof and soon after the 2025 they will look for new solutions (C-130B was acquired in 1999 and after 13 years they are ready to be decommissioned and replaced. This suggests for a new aircraft after 2025).

The probable Fixed-wing transport aircraft are to be efficient and effective and thus significant consideration to be given to their Price, Range, Payload, Maximum Take off Weight, fuel consumption, Speed and entrance to service.

You need to clear the weight requirement of BAF, but C130 are going to replace so most of them are not fit for this requirement.

Buy that which looks more badass! So photos please!

They are all boring, i want AC-130 :D

I would also love to see it in BAF but AC-130 is not a Transport/cargo aircraft my friend. I'm talking about Transport aircraft for the period beyond 2025.

Bangladesh operates 3 AN-32 with bombing configuration of up to 7.5 tonne. I would love to see them replaced by AC-130 if US ever allows.

They should look towards 7 Y-9 that can make a big difference along with 3 Y-9AEW&Cs and some K-8s as well.
The BN or BAF could also look towards acquiring the 5 Y-9MPAs as soon as they got available. These can be cheap as well as safer option in terms of technology for BDs.....

2. Airbus A400M: 170-190

9. AN-72: 20-30
10. AVIC Y-9: 20-25
11. AN-32: 12-15

The highlighted aircraft are too expensive keeping in mind that we need (according to a proposal sent to the board recently) 4 squadrons of Transport aircraft comprising of a total of 16 aircraft.

We can not replace C-130E squadron with AN-32 as two are of different category and also when AN-32 is on the line of replacement. Also, Il-76 is too old as jet powered aircraft. So, considering the pricing factor I would go for

1. CASA C-295

or

2. CASA CN-235

or

3. AN-74

or

4. AVIC Y-9

Thats a very good option I would say. You will find its status positive from every angel of judgement.

AVIC Y-9 or the Shaanxi Y-9 is a medium sized, medium range transport aircraft produced by Shaanxi Aircraft Company in China. The aircraft was developed as a stretched version of the Shaanxi Y-8F with greater payload and range. The Y-9 is considered China's attempt to build a C-130J class transport aircraft. The first flight was made in 2008. The aircraft has a payload of up to 25 tonnes which is 6 tonne higher than C-130J. Has a range of 7,800 Km which is 2,550 km higher than C-130J. Also, the unit price for the aircraft is around $20-25ml which is again $55ml less than C-130J.

I would say the AVIC Y-9 is one of the great option for BAF in this regard.

I don't think we need any K-8. BAF is in the process of ordering 16 YAK-130 and plans for 16 more in the future. K-8 would be a waste of money.

15-25 K-8 will not only be good for IJT role but also in support for Army as well as for other roles too.

The modern Primary trainers technology suggests that there is no need for an Intermediate Jet Trainer (IJT). For Example: US Air Force has retired all their T-37 tweets and T-34 Mentors and replaced them with T-6 Texan 2 (US version of Pilatus PC-9).

So far I know, BAF is planning for same. In fact BAF is in the process of acquiring the kind of Primary Trainers that can replace the aging PT-6 and IJT T-37.
