Militants kill two cops in Kashmir

After a brief lull in terror attacks, militants made a comeback on Tuesday, killing two policemen on duty in separate incidents in South Kashmirs Pulwama and Kulgam districts.
Reports said unidentified militants shot dead a policeman at Rajpora chowk in Pulwama town, 35 km from here, around noon. A police official said constable Dalbir Singh was shot at from point blank range. Though he was immediately shifted to hospital, but he succumbed to his wounds there, he added.
An eyewitness said the shootout created panic in the locality. We heard the sound of bullet shots and everyone started running to safer places, Parvaiz Ahmad, a shopkeeper, told Deccan Herald over phone.
Reports said police and paramilitary troopers were rushed to the spot and a manhunt was launched to trace the assailants.
In a separate incident, unidentified militants shot at constable Mukhtar Ahmad in Yaripora market of Kulgam district, 80 km from here, at around 6 pm. Police said Ahmad was rushed to the district hospital at Kulgam, where he was declared brought dead.
No militant outfit has claimed responsibility for the attacks so far.
