I think it has more to do with something else against particular Sikh Group by India and ToI is taking sides here by using the word Militant

Thats possible. I dont know if the group involved, UK Sangat has any Khalistan leanings. But if they do, then that would explain the title by TOI. But if they dont, then its terrible mis-reporting and adding unnecessary 'color' to the event by the TOI.

Its not Sikh Militants though, it says "Militant" Sikhs, there is a difference. They could be referring to the Nihang Sikhs. Having said that though freaking Times of India shouldn't have copied the Brits.

With all due respect, TTT thats a Punjabi saying. It would be a disrespect to other Punjabis to attribute this saying only to the Sikh half of the community. The high spirited culture of the Sikhs is mainly due to the Punjabis who took to Sikhism en masse. This high spirited culture is responsible for the martial, enterprising and industrial ethos of the Sikh quam as well as the propensity to drink, eat meat and make merry. As the latter are against the Sikh edicts, it is this contradiction that often leads to incidents like the one in UK. Just want to provide people a little context here.

Nihangs were never addressed as militants. They are hardliners and puritanical in their beliefs but militant was never their moniker. This is just and error or as I said, an attempt to add unnecessary color to the incident.

I know you didnt mean anything offensive, bro. Khalsa Sikhs, the baptized sikhs also sometimes tie their turbans in the Nihang style. The one in my avatar is a Nihang.

Actually the martial spirit of the Sikhs was further enforced when the Jatts joined during Banda's revolt. Jatts by nature are independent and free spirited, so the soldiering nature of the Sikhs got a fillip when Jatts joined in droves. Many of the Misls (confederacies previous to Ranjit Singh's empire) were led or comprised of Jatts. This also leads us to current divisions amongst Sikhs. Jatts dominate the current political and social structure of the Sikh community. So much so that many of the 'lower caste' Sikhs have embraced Christianity or have gravitated towards fake babas and deras like the one in Sirsa called the Dera Sacha Sauda.
