Indian current 4th gen combat jet inventory as per IISS:

236 Su-30 MKI
65 Mig-29 SMT/ST
49 Mirage 2000H/TH
6 Tejas Mk-1
44 Mig-29K/KUB

So a total of 400 fourth gen jets.

They have 800 1st gen pilots fit only for biplane and zeplins

They had abysmal nightfighting capability, range, fcs and above all had NO counter to PAF's American supplied Sidewinders(which were the benchmark for air combat weapons at that time).

The situation is much-much different now.
We have maintained a technological gap since the 90s, proof being PAF refusal to even engage us in Kargil.
I mean why didn't PAF defeat us in 99, after all IAF is no match for PAF even with our superior numbers, right?

There is one which looks out for used F16 and the one who rejects latest F16IN

There is one who makes up mind for J10, and there is one who puts Rafale and EF Typhoon to competition before finalization.

There is an airforce which rejects Gripen/ Mig 35/ F16 IN because they donot satisfy requirements, and there is an AirForce which Inducts JF17 even before it achieves BVR capability

Even Today Tejas Mk1 is way ahead than JF BL2, but the standards of IAF are much much higher than PAF,

In case of war please shove those standards where the sun don’t shine! High standards are backed by performance and we all know which airforce has had its *** handed to it on a plate despite having all the aircraft in the world! Typical indian bs post!

They do, actually. It's a hard requirement for FOC. Ground trials have been completed, and dry contact trials in the air have been carried out, last I heard. LSP-8 will soon undergo wet trials, if they have not already begun.

tender for hundreds and get 36 for many fold the original price.
and now searching new plane for many years.

while we have taken few used f16s and upgraded them to block 52.
and making our own 4 generation jf 17.
soon a 4.5 generation block 3 will be available and all of previous would be converted to block 3 too.

Indian AirForce is having more than 2000 Fighter Jets which are upgraded up to date and the Fighter Jets are above 4.5 generation with thousands of BVR Air to Air Missiles , Astra MK II and even Astra MK III is under mass production and on that Laser Guided bombs and uncounted numbers of Armed UAV like Rustom MK II and Rustom MK III etc, Brahmos Air Version Criuse Missiles .

Malaysian Air Force and Indonesian Air Force are having Sundaram Fighter Jets and on that United Arab Emirate Air Force is having Jaguar and Mirage Fighter Jets and on that even Sudanese AirForce and Afghanistan AirForce are having agreements related to have Indian Made Fighter Jets.

What bhakwas even without Tejas it's nearly 394 fourth generation fighter. With recent increase of availability of SU-30 IAF is a deadly threats for all neighbors except China.
