MiG To Sign MiG-35 Fighter Contract With Russian Defense Ministry

Russian MiG plans to deliver MiG-35 fighters to the Russian Defense Ministry by the end of this year.

The Russian Mikoyan MiG-35 (Fulcrum-F) jet fighter is a further development of the MiG-29M/M2 and MiG-29K/KUB.

"Right now the contract is in the negotiation stage, we expect it to be signed before the end of 2016…The plan is that the shipment of the first two aircraft under the contract will be carried out before the end of 2017," MiG Deputy Director General Alexey Beskibalov was quoted as saying by Sputnik Saturday.

The MiG fighters will soon receive latest platform-less intertial navigation system.

The MiG-35 is a multipurpose 4 ++ generation fighter, it is a further development of the MiG-29K / KUB and MiG-29M / M2 combat aircraft with improved combat effectiveness and versatility, as well as improved performance.

Why do you think it would be sanctioned? Pakistan is already procuring a range of equipment from Russia.

India itself has plans to replace MIG-29s with RAFALEs, F-18/F35s and NLCA.

PAF is on the look out for a 5th generation fighter. Apart from J-31, MIG-35s fits the bill perfectly.

well yes they can buy what they want but money is the problem. but in pakistanscase they are doing 3 thing with their air force right now. the jf-17 program. a rose styled f16 program and buying more advanced varients as a stop gap. and 5th gen fighters from either china or turkey, the former being the most likely.

Apart from J-31s from China, MIG-35 from Russia is PAF's best bet.

Since MIG-35 is a evolution from MIG-29s, MIG-35s would see the light before J-31 becomes mature.

I would give MIG-35 70% chance against J-31 (30%)

JF-17 & J-10 are single engined and are not comparable to MIG-35s.

Forget about Turkey. It is not going to happen.

And what makes you say PAF is even considering J-31? As opposed to FC-20, a J-10 variant? IIRC purchase of 36 FC-20s, a Pakistan-specific J-10B variant, was approved in April 2006 and in November 2009, Pakistan signed a deal with China to buy 36 J-10B fighters in a deal worth around $1.4 billion.

Russian sell weapons to China because they know India can't afford to attack or defend against China ..

But was India able to stop the AH-Z1 deal? The answer is no. F-16s are just on hold until the agreements as part of DTTI with India are completed.

We have to understand these deals from Business perspective.

If India wants a supplier to stop selling something to Pakistan, it should offer something in return. Generally it would at least 3 times the requested value being stopped.

Let's says Pakistan puts request for 3 squadrons then India would need place an order for 7-9 Squadrons to counter and kill the Pakistan's request.

This is almost impossible as India is already planning to procure RAFALEs, F/A-18s & FGFAs.

but why go for a 4++ gen fighter when you can wait a little longer for a 5th gen fighter. also you have the hassel of maintainance and servicing which is has as one would expects on russain jets. also it would not be worth haveing dedicated facilities for a jet that would be good for a about 6 years which would be supercuaded by a 5th gen fighter.
also tai has invited pac to join as a partner to ofset the costs.
in regards to cost the mig 35 is about $37 million. the j31 would be north of 50+ million so yeah it would be cheaper. but one must forget that once you have the jet you need to look after it. my say its not worth going for the mig 35. just buy more advanced f16's till the j31 is ready. also yes the tfx is unlikely but not impossible or hard. even you must know how hard the turks are trying to break into the pakistani market, heck they even bared selling you (india) guys weapons to keep them happy which is pointless

What makes you so sure that either of them will also stick by you in case of a confrontation? In 1971 other than move troops to our borders, China did squat all. In present times, the proximity of US and Co to India is a similar factor.

As for Turkey, I doubt it will side with either as there are excellent relationships between India and Turkey!
