MIG-41 – A NEW MACH 4+ FIGHTER

niether anything like SR72 nor so called mig 41 will ever be produced question is why ?

1. with air to air missiles getting better by the day it is becoming almost impossible to get them off your tail no matter how good are your pilots or how great is your aircrafts speed or manuvourability

2. stealth and unmanned fighter bobmers are on the horoizen and apart from neuklear strike they are officialli or unoffically as of now are used in every type of missions

3. today with very very advanced and long range and very pricise cruise missiles days are numberred for long rangwe strategick deep penetration bombers

MiG-41 has a chance to appear as an air-defense or even missle defence aircraft. Huge northern Russian regions are very hard to protect with a ground air defense systems, now there used MiG-31's, but soon they will be retired. They need a replacement.

Can a pilot sustain a G force in Mach 4+ for a longer time

well FGFA is already on the horizon and it can do anything that a couple or even more Mig 31 can do so why waste money os two seprate platorms for the same job

the coming couple of years will revolutionise the aerospace picture as never before seen and the leading the charge will be so called "6th gen = stealth UCAVs like Mig Skat"

pioltled planes are today like what biplanes were at the closing years of 1st world war

Using the PAK-FA as an interceptor of missiles and aircrafst in the Arctic, it seems to me inappropriate. Especially, the PAK-FA can not compete in speed with the MiG-31, not to mention the MiG-41.

well no matter how great your speed is you cant owtrun or owtmanouver the new breed of SAMs and air to air missiles coming in couple of years

and the onli solution is UCAVs and that too which can do the strike aswell as air interception jobs simontainousli and they are already here

as for arctic theater well dude you know better than me that how good the new range of russian or american land based radars and support systems are as of now and what is planned so why wste the money in creating a very high speed stealth interceptor when the end results can be achived by air to air missiles on regular 5th gen interceptors as radars and air to air missiles are not what they were 30 years back

Imagine 9,000 kilometers of almoust uninhabited Arctic borders of Northen Russia. It is practically impossible and very expensive to build an air defense system using ground complexes. But with the help of high-speed interceptors based on several airbases it can be done.

Exactly.

why China don't copy Mig-31 ?
Because that aircraft was built for a very specialized role that is more relevant to Russia with its vast expanses. China's geopolitical demands have little need for such a specialized interceptor.

Foxbat was a pain in the *** for us, the Israelis as well.

Speed is not the main issue, Acceleration is. It will not be issue if you accelerate limiting the G forces with in tolerable limit. even if you fly on mach 20 and no acceleration it is not an issue.

I agree - aircraft are more flexible than fixed site SAMS, or even mobile SAMs. Further, the US may build an SR-72 as a recon aircraft, in which case the Russians might want something that could threaten it. Running away is easier than catching up, and both aircraft are imaginary at this point, so we shall see. There has been talk (not construction) in the US of very high speed bombers as well, so perhaps Russia is reacting to some of that as well.

Intercepting a very high speed bogie is an interesting problem. You really only get one head-to-head shot. Head-to-head is tough for a lot of guidance systems. Getting something out in the target region, then turned around and chasing down a very fast mover for a rear shot is going to be very tricky (assuming high speed inbound bombers). Still, if you only have one shot you want to take it as far out as possible so that a backup aircraft can work over the first wave survivors. You're not thinking of a long engagement, just fire at the target(s), hope the second wave of fighters finishes off the survivors while you plod back to base on your little remaining fuel.

I wonder if anyone has thought of slowing the missile down for h2h engagements, to make the tracking problem a little easier. Like, Mach 1 or 2 instead of 3-4,
