Russian MiG-35 Jet Fighter

Russian multirole fighter jets will be equipped with a platform-less inertial navigation system.

“The MiG-35 will receive the navigation system. We have signed a contract, we have to put some samples for testing at the end of this — early next year,” said the CEO of the Moscow Institute of Electro Mechanics and Automation, Alexei Kuznetsov was quoted as saying by Sputnik Friday.

The new inertial system is designed to determine the location of the object, complex processing and delivering navigation of an object in autonomous mode in absence of terrestrial, marine or space signals.

Russia signed a contract to procure MiG-35s in August which is scheduled to be delivered in the first quarter of 2016.

The MiG-35 is an upgraded version of MiG-29M/M2andMiG-29K/KUBtechnology. Miikoyan calls it a 4++ generation jet fighter. The first prototype was a modification of the aircraft that previously served as MiG-29M2 model demonstrator. 10 prototypes have been built so far and are currently subject to extensive field trials.
