On topic..
One wonders why these arent being flown LESS.. then more.

Or.. the IAF has decided to begin phasing out these jets and save on scrapping costs at the same time..
either way.. Pilots (Sons, Husbands, Fathers) lives are at stake.

.
IAF flies two sub-variants of the Type 96.
1) the Mig 21 M ( 158 Nos. built by HAL)
2) the MiG-21MF (96A) bought off the shelf from the USSR.

This crash is of the Mig 21 M, which was built by HAL from 1973 to 1981. The MINIMUM age of this aircraft will be 30 years all the way to 38 years.

.
If we continue flying those old mig-21s, more crashes would be there....dont know why MoD is so helpless to retire them?..atleast the pathetic ones.

@Pakistanisage:
Bro, you are not getting it. HAL quality cannot be at fault 30+ years after the plane was built!!! Don't you get it?

.
I think Mig-21 crash rate decreased in recent times but we still need to phase them out fast.

Then who is at fault?
Because whoever it is.. isnt the one putting their lives on the line.

It was some IAF cheif , don't recall his name , he said MIG 21 were flyable when a decision was made to phase them out in 2002

I would squarely put the blame on the maintenance procedures and the ab-initio training practices. In one word, the IAF!
Of course in this case, we don;t know if it was pilot error or technical snags.

Agreed. Blame MoD for putting off purchase of new planes and the Air Chief for agreeing to fly them longer.

You cannot blame any IAF officer for that....from deep down inside of their heart they would never wish for mig-21s....MoD is surely to be blamed.

.
how many mig 21's u have left?????
why your GOVT is risking the lives of their young pilots and keep sending them on suicide missions.......:undecided:

Congress is dead scared of doing any real (read big money) defense procurement. The last time they did, it ended up in a corruption charge toppling their government - Bofors Scandal (late 80s). To avoid being manhandled again and sound transparent to the public and companies they have devised a DPP (defense procurement procedure) which is so complicated that almost nobody understands. Look at what is happening to MMRCA. The babus are just too good with their red tape. That is one disadvantage of a civilian rule. All chiefs are frustrated and are crying out loud but who cares. BABUS rule.

The only deals they have done is through Foreign Military Sales through other goverment, viz., C130-j, C17s and P8I with US and the usual Su30MKI, helicopter, transport plane stuff with Russia.

. .
Blast those mig 21 or make there flight time less they are of no use
