The Captain’s Journal Baitullah Mehsud Threatens Washington

The commander of the Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility Tuesday for a deadly assault on a Pakistani police academy and said the group was planning a terrorist attack on the White House that would “amaze” the world.

Baitullah Mehsud, who has a $5 million bounty on his head from the U.S., said Monday’s attack on the outskirts of the eastern city of Lahore was retaliation for U.S. missile strikes against militants along the Afghan border.

“Soon we will launch an attack in Washington that will amaze everyone in the world,” Mehsud told The Associated Press by phone. He provided no details.

Mehsud has never been directly linked to any attacks outside Pakistan, but attacks blamed on his network of fighters have widened in scope and ambition in recent years. The threat comes days after President Barack Obama warned that al-Qaida is actively planning attacks on the United States from secret havens in Pakistan.

Pakistan’s former government and the CIA named Mehsud as the prime suspect behind the December 2007 killing of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. Pakistani officials accuse him of harboring foreign fighters, including Central Asians linked to al-Qaida, and of training suicide bombers.

In his latest comments, Mehsud identified the White House as one of the targets in an interview with local Dewa Radio, a copy of which was obtained by the AP.

In such a scenario it may in fact behoove them to eliminate BM and his TTP, since his presence and actions complicate how their efforts in Afghanistan are viewed by Pakistanis.

Very true. The more Afghanistan oriented commanders know that the Pakistan Army has the capacity to destroy all these groups operating along the borders (as do most other experts) and they might fear that the likes of Betullah Mehsud have pushed the Army and the nation to act with an iron fist in which all the groups might find themselves eliminated or at least very threatened. In that case it would make more sense to distance themselves from Mehsud, or even actively help in the fight against him, so that the Pakistani state is given to differentiate between the two brands and at the very least apply milder means of pressurizing the non-TTPs once their primary concern has been eliminated.

But, anyone who claims to work for Islam and loses a war is bad.
Any such loser has Israeli or Indian connections.
So they should be shot.

I thought most of the Urdu papers and half the English press were pro-TTP until a few months ago and now that they are losing, you blame it on Israel ?

(Sorry, this comment may be too much of a loose cannon - I am not trying to blame any of the posters. I just can't understand how someone who claims to preserve the purity of Islam can be associated with Israel or India).

you misjudged the whole thing.
Most of Urdu press, some of english and ppl lik me differentiate bw TTP and afghan talibans. now when we say that afghan talibans are right in fighting americans , ppl lik you (who dont differentiate bw TTP and afghan talibans) take it for granted that we are not against TTP as well. Y we were supporting talks was to avoid bloodshed and also to convince locals that we are on their side and not on US. later talks didnt work out leavin us with no option but to back military operation. its only bec of those talks that today locals are supportin army operation.
there is gud enough reason to believe that india and israel are aidin TTP, knowin our past relationships.

ISLAMABAD: The former right hand of Baitullah Mehsud, Haji Turkistan Baetani has alleged Mehsud of plotting the assassination of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto.

Talking to Geo news, Baetani said I myself heard him say, “I have moved two of my associates to Rawalpindi slaying of Mohtarma B.B”.

He also divulged that Baitullah Mehsud is an American agent so US never targeted him through drone attacks.

Mehsud is being funded by Israel and India for brainwashing of young innocent Muslims to prepare them for suicide bombings in Pakistani mosques and educational institutes, he concluded.

Pushtoon tribes are very strong in Waziristan, no invader defeated them in their more then 1000 years history, they become united when their is any danger ,PA tried before to deafet them failed in 2003 and 2004.

The idea that my country would be supportive of anyone associated with the assassination of Mrs. Bhutto is ludicrous! America was horrified at her death. We supported Pakistan's efforts to restore the democratic process and pressured Gen. Musharraf to step down. What a ridiculous claim that somehow the opposite is true.
