McCHRYSTAL IN TROUBLE !

Rolling Stones (really?) should not have published this at such a crucial stage in the WOT. This will have severe repercussions because McChrystal was actually making some progress and experience is key in this current scenario.

Changing the command structure is unnecessary and the matter should have been solved in entirely different manner. The low amount of troops and the time dictated makes the herculean task outlined by Obama difficult to achieve.

I do hope that the Taliban are not left fully intact in Afghanistan, for the sake of the Afghani's and the region itself there has to be a tolerant and just government. Perhaps in a power sharing agreement because that is the only way the people and the prevalent mindset found in some quarters can be changed.

I think McCHRYSTAL wanted to get fired so as to not become a failed general. He had a pretty good career in Iraq but in Afghanistan i think he knew he would fail so it is much better to resign or get sacked then be disgraced for another Vietnam.

Methinks there is enough news posting about this already. There is nothing new in them. All these news sources do is merely duplicate 'reporting' from the same source. See if there are any genuine analysis instead.

Can you inform us what's going on behind the scene?
It got to be much more beneath the surface!!!

Rolling stone offered him a sword to behead himself and then watched his head roll.

Besides Huffington Post among many calling for his resignation (or being fired), there was a good post last night on a blog where many ex-soldiers post:-

Sic Semper Tyrannis : See the McChrystal post on 30 May, 2010

I actually agree with the substance of the blog quote... but the issue is that McChrystal's resignation now complicates the Afghan scenario quite severely. For example, if McChrystal was challenging Obama because he ultimately wanted the timetable for withdrawal rethought, then the underlying question is why? Why did he want this timetable reconsidered? I think the answer lies in the fact that nothing even slightly sustainable - in the way of peace, development or a political process - can be achieved in Afghanistan in the next couple of years. That will make it about a dozen years of NATO occupation ending with gross failure in almost all of their nation building and development goals. Not to mention ba$tards like OBL, MO and AAZ are all still running free... and ironically, they are the smaller issue in my opinion. The bigger issue is the overall sorry state of Afghanistan, which is an unmitigated disaster despite the $1T-1.5T expended and 10 years spent thus far.

This will also complicate life for us. We don't want NATO to fail in Afghanistan because then we will have violent instability on our border, with the international community once more bereft of stamina and ready to bury their head in the sand... we will return to the Afghan status-quo; jockeying between the Northern Alliance warlords, the emergence of a drug-money funded Karzai faction and the ever-opportune Taliban to name a few warring parties.

Back. To. Square. One.

With McChrystal gone, how is the Kandahar operation going to be impacted? What analysis will be invested in determining why McChrystal and his team believe 2011 to be unrealistic? If it was unrealistic why did the military agree to a 2011 draw-down in return for more surge troops? What is realistic - both in terms of goals and the time taken to get there? All these questions and more will have to be asked.

This was a very unfortunate incident that I wish had not occurred at all. Destabilizing and unnecessary. The Taliban, corruption, poppy growth, warlord-ism, an unhappy populace and a deviant political coterie are enemies enough. McChrystal didn't need to go to war with himself.

Tech lahore in such an org like Army, at the top slot there are people who can do the job better, But you know the Afghan Scenario needed a tipping point and MChrystal's resignation is that tipping point. Games Over..What US needs to do is to engage the anti forces in dialogue inorder to facillitate there withdrawl and for that theyl perhaps send a new man in or maybe promote one of his Deputies..!!!

Morever IMHO Afghanistan requires an honest effort unfortunately Nato didnt made that effort as it prioritized its own interests .Afghanistan will remain Afghanistan. The best thing for Afghanistan could possibly be International Muslim Peace keeping Force under Pakistani command. We might eventually move towards that..!

What about if we divide up afghanistan and absorbe it into surrounding countries along lines of ethnicity and/or geopolitical borders. The thing with a foreign occupation force is that it is hard to gather support from the surrounding nations. Whereas if it is actually part of territories of other nations they will make more effort to police the region, also means harder for terrorists to hide. Some sort of cooperation is needed from all neighbouring countries.

Just annhiliate TTP by cutting of their logistics supply lines.
Say NO to logistics transit through Pakistani land and air.
All terrorist will fight with each other till death, in few months.

One does not need to be a genious to understand that TTP needs supplies on scale of NATO and it seems they have much better supply routes... like air route for instance... this also confirms that foreign states are financing, feeding and arming TTP.

say NO to indian trucks and air trafic. say NO to supporters of terrorists. say NO to hypocrites. Kick the traitors out of Pakistan.

He should get fired...the General serves at the pleasure of the civilian leadership and he forgot that. You do not criticize your boss in public.

^^ So in US no one say no to his boss??? this is new to me!
I know boss has different image in underdevelop states but you are first American thinking like a south asian!!

I will never accept a job where i'm fully responsible but not incharge of affairs.
Such patchup is destined ot fail, from begining.

US has said many things against Pakistan in the process... did we suspended our co-operation?

Its not so much that he disagreed with boss but he publicised it (intentional or not) to a media which people reads. Politicians are sensitive to that sort of things.

You do NOT criticize your boss in PUBLIC. If you have a problem with him you take it up face to face with him. If he did not like his job he could always resign..no one is forcing him to stay.

Pakistan does such a great job running their own country am sure they wont have any problem with Afghanistan.
