Milestone or no milestone, Dr. Manmohan Singh is a thorough gentleman and commands respect the world over the likes of which are not available to even the most seasoned statesmen. Show me another present day active Indian politician who can command such respect from both the local masses and world over for their statesmanship?

We have a BJP guy here :D ,Its true hez a puppet, but we need this guy for further strengthening our economy.

PS:post me a list of his failures, thanks in advance.

Kashmir issue
Inflation
CWG
Maoist voilence
Can't control allies like Mamata, DMK corruption case

Directly or indirectly the PM is resonsible for his cabinet, and he has been shying away from even giving a statement on most of these issues. Maybe Rahul "baba" did not allow him to do so ....

Control of allies rests with the party's executive committees or the agreements with such parties. The office of the PM of India is of a higher level to indulge in such petty matters and rightfully Dr. Singh has refused to tarnish the image and stature of the PMO by commenting on such issues.

Secondly the points that you mention about Kashmir, CWG, corruption etc it is also beneath the stature/responsibilities of the PMO to issue comments on such matters. The responsibilities are delegated to the respective ministries and the Ministers in-charge are responsible for their portfolios. It the job of the ministries to inform and explain to the public on how they are dealing with the issues, not the job of the PM or the PMO.

All this is explicitly explained in high school civics text books.

He was the best finance minister we ever had by far, but sorry to say this last term as PM has been a disaster, He has not been able to manage even one issue, from the Maoist, to terrorism to Pakistan, the economy, prices, kashmir etc etc. He needs to step down before he damages his legacy.

Mr. Gubbi will raise his doubt about you attending high school too after reading your statement desibhai ... :P

He is the most educated <language edit> PM India could ever had. Fantastic former FM and horrible PM.

Then what is the job of Indian PM? :what:

Jokes apart, he can not be absolved of responsibilities. We all know our 10th class civics books, but when things go out of control, PM has to take initiatives otherwise his credibility would go down which is happening right now.

Nobody denies or challenges his authority over financial matters. However things are still going bad to worse. Only explanation might be, he is not having complete control of other policy makers which again terms him as weak. This "perception" is getting stronger. MMS looks more like a CEO rather than PM of the nation.

I am no fan of BJP however I agree with Arun Jaitley's remark that PM can not use silence as weapon of convenience. I have noted MMS is the last person who has any standing on any national matter. Sometimes I even wonder who is running the country?

Lol, no my friend. I am not raising any doubts. I said that official duties are delegated among the various ministries and its the job of those ministries to issue statements which concern their portfolios. PMO is above some petty matters in Indian politics. I just happened to mention that such things are taught in high school civics, no offence here.

I agree with this point of yours, albeit to some extent. The problem with Dr Singh is that he is not a grassroots level leader. He actually doesnt have a mass following like say Vajpayee or PVN had. Their clout in politics came from this mass support and hence they had that much control over matters of the state and various ministries when they occupied the PMO.

But then, one cannot micromanage the affairs of the state. PVN, even though he had such vast experience and political clout, literally gave Dr Singh a free hand to implement economic reforms. Good governance comes from proper delegation of authority and responsibilities and ensure that those delegated responsibilities are carried out efficiently. Thats what CEO's do, thats what Head of Govt.'s do.

But yes, his lack of grassroots level mass support does diminish his political clout in the government and that to some extent affects his interactions with other leaders. But then, doesnt Sonia have his back against any political backlash from within the party or in the politics? Stooge or no stooge, Dr. Singh does have excellent academic credentials and very good chemistry with other world leaders. A very important point to consider when India is on a path to become a major world power. Or would you like to see the likes of a Mayawati or Mamta Banerjee or even Lallu hobnobbing with world leaders at various forums?
