‘Malik’s statement on Karachi must be taken seriously’
The statement given by Interior Minister Rehman Malik regarding Karachi has caused scare and fear among the masses and this should be taken very seriously by the law enforcement agencies to protect the lives and properties of the people in the metropolis.
This was stated by General Secretary PML-Q (Sindh) Halim Adil Sheikh when asked to comment on the statement of Rehman Malik that there were chances of terrorism in Karachi next month.
He said such a statement has a lot of weight as 10 to 15 people were being daily killed in Karachi and when an interior minister says such thing the same should be taken very seriously.
“Rehman Malik had earlier taken various actions like suspending mobile service and thanks God that the holy months of Muharram and 12th Rabi-ul-Awwal passed peacefully,” he added.
Imtaiz said he had been daily receiving calls from traders and industrialists showing their extreme concern over the city situation.
He said that if Taliban exist in Karachi then the government should take measures on war-footing to control the situation.
When asked what he feels about the prevailing political and economic situation in Pakistan, he said that the country was confronted with internal and external dangers and in such a situation all the political parties and stake holders need to sit together and adopt a joint strategy to save the country.
Imtiaz Ahmed Sheikh further said that as per Rehman Malik no Taliban were involved in target killings in Karachi, which implies that all the three coalition partners were responsible for the city situation, while land and extortion mafia were also active and committing killings.
When contacted, Jamat-e-Islami spokesman Sarfaraz Ahmed offered no comments but said Rehman Malik should resign and wait for caretaker setup. President PML-N Syed Ghaus Ali Shah was not available for comments.
