Making Sense of the Chinese People's Liberation Army's New Tracks at Doklam

. .
The world also takes claims of pdf Chinese very seriously.

It’s hilarious that their own government doesn’t think they’re smart enough to select their own leaders or have a say in their future, but somehow the eastern hoard expects the rest of the world to take them seriously lol

nobody is smart enough to select his leader. some know that. some don't.

Combine century of humiliation with Sino-centrism we will get this sort of petulant whining

Anyway, I am not complaining about this post Mao-Chinese Govt's deluded sense of international prestige as it has benefited us immensely.

Having a choice and say is what matters.
yes, I totally agree. In fact, people always have a say. No government can last long without the consent from majority. Some have to say with violence. some can do so peacefully, which is probably the only benefit I think democracy brings and it is no small benefit, considering how much damage violence may cause.

I beg to differ.

I am not surprised. Nowadays, democracy has been so exaggerated (as if it is a remedy for all social ills) that people have a false sense of their voting power and at the same time underestimate the impact of individuals living in authoritarian countries.

Never said Democracy was a perfect political system. No system for that matter is. But it without doubt is the system that gives voice to the aspirations of the common man. Something authoritarian regimes don’t. That’s a fact. No two ways about it, no matter how much one sugarcoats it.

Nobody is lying. The only thing is you Chinese are ignorant.

China is building small amounts of infra in order to hold a few thousand troops just as a show of strength because India already has 100,000 troops right beside the disputed area, with main battle tanks.

China is building infra on the Chinese side of the border, which both Bhutan and India accept to be China's territory. Chinese infra in the disputed area were long demolished back in July by the Indian Army.

We are just 500 meters away.

Read the article so you realize that we are talking about a very small area.

From the Doka La post, the Indian soldiers will continue to keep a hawk-eye on the Doklam bowl - which is Bhutanese territory but claimed by China - less than 500 meters away down the ridge slope.

"Our soldiers sit on the top, hold the ridge and can swiftly intervene, as they pro-actively did in mid-June, if the People's Liberation Army once again tries to unilaterally change the status quo by constructing a road near the Sikkim-Bhutan-Tibet tri-junction," said a source.

This week, NDTV and The Print both ran exclusive satellite imagery-based glances at Doklam, the Himalayan site of this summer’s standoff between Indian and Chinese troops that remains ongoing, albeit at a reduced intensity. According to NDTV, “New satellite images of the Doklam area to the east of Sikkim reveal that the Chinese have expanded multiple stretches of road in the disputed area, just a short distance from the site where Indian and Chinese soldiers faced off for 70 days earlier this year.” The Print‘s analysis supports that conclusion.

Having reviewed daily satellite imagery of the Doklam site through Planet, there’s no contesting against that conclusion. At some point after the start of this summer’s standoff in June, the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) improved and potentially added new pieces of track and road on the Dolam plateau, approximately one kilometer from the “turning point” that was the nexus of this summer’s standoff. These newly constructed roads, however, aren’t to be confused with the as-yet-unconstructed planned road extension that spurred the Indian Army to cross the watershed line into Doklam in June in the first place. Instead, these roads are alternative pathways connecting a long-standing Chinese road that has been in use at Doklam since at least 2005 and almost certainly much earlier.

The exact timing of the construction of the roads highlighted by NDTV and The Print is interesting, too. Though NDTV suggests the roads were constructed in October, Planet’s imagery of the Doklam site reveals evidence of their existence as early as late-August, just days before India and China announced the ‘disengagement’, by which their troops would both retreat their positions, but remain at Doklam. Imagery from August appears obscured by clouds, but there’s enough evidence to conclude that the PLA likely began construction on these paths at some point between late-July and mid-August, at the height of the standoff.

It’s unclear if the PLA’s decision to construct these pathways was informed by an expectation that the standoff would turn into a months-long affair, necessitating a robust wintertime presence in the Dolam bowl. Now, with the PLA and the Indian Army both dug in for the winter at Doklam, these pathways provide an important benefit as far as supply and logistics are concerned. The long-standing single pathway at Doklam requires constant maintenance in the winter months and, with reportedly hundreds of PLA troops still in the area, alternative pathways for logistics and replenishment may serve and important purpose. These paths could also enable longer-term ranging and patrol activities for the PLA in the area.

No one knows just how large the PLA’s presence at Doklam might be six months or a year from now, but these new tracks provide the foundation for a more permanent presence in the area. Before this summer’s standoff, the PLA would intermittently patrol the area and enter into the occasional scuffle with the Royal Bhutanese Army or an Indian Army patrol. Now, with hundreds of troops dug in for the winter, with equipment in tow, India must be prepared for a permanently transformed state of affairs to the east of its border post at Doka La, along the Sikkim-Bhutan border.

Even an Indian in the media admit that PLA are dug in in Doklam, within the dispute area, why are some Indians denying this fact?

How about trying to build the same road which was halted by IA then come back and chest thumb here kid ..... Fortifying your side of the border is nothing new here.... Stop acting tough

Even if you guys will construct the road inside Indian territory, Indians will still say that Chinese lost because they didn't construct the road originally planned..

 last time when they build inside their claimed territory we stopped them...and their media showed they way how desperate react....
What's the use of building a permanent base so close to the border!??? Will be whipped out with artillery and missiles.... Take out few Bridges their entire supply halts.... Do you know how far is their nearest bases!??? Go check the map..... And Pakistani cheer leaders are here with no knowledge on the ground...

WTF, What is there to make sense. China is there and China is there to stay. Modi was jumping high on the back of Uncle Sam but Uncle Sam will not fight Doklam. All India can do is delete phone apps for the sake of national security.

Why are you Pakistanis jumping high more than the chinese when it comes to Doklam :partay:

democracy is a perfect political system so long as it is used in the area it fits. No political system fits all aspects of social life. The same applies to authoritarian system.

The only thing is you Indians make fuss about little things. The whole thing was reported only by Indian media that makes mere 1800 troops stationed far away such a big deal while India has many times more on the other side and much closer.

Yes, but many Indians such as @MULUBJA are in serious denial. This time, even an Indian reporter shows that NDTV and the print has satellite evidence that the construction was only a mile away, well within the conflict area. These Indian fact deniers have to eat their words now. As we are all entirely entitled to our own opinions, but we are not entitled to our own facts.

@Chinese-Dragon @rott @Beast @ashok321 @lonelyman @sinait @Jlaw@Martian2 @Feng Leng@rcrmj

Did the Chinese extend the road southwards towards the militarily-sensitive Jampheri Ridge which was the reason for the conflict last time ? Do digest and share that fact
