What's new

Major Alaa Waheeb, the IDF’s most decorated Muslim soldier, received the Minister of Defense’s Medal

.
I merely reflected on what my friend from Saudia Arabia said. No need to be more catholic then catholics.

I don't know what was exactly controversial about my comment? I think, objectively speaking, it was quite spot on. I even clearly wrote that if I was an "Israeli Arab", I would most likely not have joined the IDF but if the proportion of Israeli Arabs that served in the IDF was proportional to their actual demographic makeup of Israel (20% of the population), those 20% of Israeli soldiers might have interacted differently with the average Palestinians and made life easier for them and in their little way (directly or indirectly) contributed towards peace.

But of course I could have written Zionist swine, send him to Auschwitz, Jihad etc. rhetoric or stating the obvious (Israel is a oppressive state towards the Palestinians who are defenseless).

.
But is he a Muslim at all?

Isn't it the holy duty of every Muslim to fight against injustice against his coreligionists? Jihad?
I don't have a licence from upstairs to decided who is or who is not a Muslim. I leave that to Allah. However you do raise interesting point. India has nearly 200 million Muslims, your Presidents, senior army officers, your iconic actors, your billionaire businessmen like Azim Premji are Muslim, Indian Muslims. Being part of a country that has been at war with Pakistan and that continues to punish and occupy the Kashmiri Muslims in case of naked force raises the question? Are Indian Muslims actually Muslim?

I don't know
There was nothing at all controversial in what you said and your outlook is positive that looks to the future. But lot of these guys are still stuck in the Muslim good guy Jew bad guy binary. The reality as you I think have alluded to is Israeli's and Arabs are both the same people. Brothers divided by time. And like any brothers one day you are going to make peace. Pakistani's of course think just because they are Muslims they are more related to Arabs then Israeli's. When you that is not quite true. Future of Arabs is with with all Semite people including Israel.

Druze are Arabs.

Arabs are not a monolith. Palestinian Arabs are not a uniform group of people either. Gazans are not identical to people from Jaffa etc. No people are. Druze might be Arabs but they have their separate identity. Most of those Druze are descendants of Hijazi and Yemeni tribes that settled the mountainous parts of Lebanon and ruled it. Many converted from Islam to Druze religion. Druze have incorporated many various beliefs of the region and Druze themselves have a quite complicated history. Many people were observed into their community.

Druze used to rule most of Lebanon.

Fakhr-al-Din II

From the Banu Ma'an (Qahtani)

Bashir Shihab II

(most epic beard in history)

He in turn converted from Sunni Islam to Maronite (Christian sect native to Arab lands).

Bashir was born in 1767 in Ghazir,[4][5] a village in the Keserwan region of Mount Lebanon. He was the son of Qasim ibn Umar ibn Haydar ibn Husayn Shihab of the Shihab dynasty,[6]

In turn from the Hijazi Shihab dynasty.

Lebanon is basically a melting pot on this front. Various families have changed "identities" overnight.

Borders and entities (ruling) have changed so many time in this region that just 3 generations of Saudi Arabians have belonged to 4-5 different entities. People mixed. Hijaz and my family for instance is the perfect example. Hijazi, Iraqi, Egyptian, Circassian etc. and that is only in the past 5-6 generations.

Well, I like to think "outside of the box". Otherwise it just gets to predictable and boring. My views on an online forum won't change much and if they do (for the better) I won't complain. I prefer to create change in person or by influencing people in person.

I would not say that at all. Israeli Arabs are the same people. 2/3 of all Israeli Jews (which are mostly Arab Jews) are more or less the same people. However that is just that. People evolve. Arabs and Jews lived peacefully next to each other. As did Jewish communities elsewhere in the Muslim world. Armenians used to live relatively peacefully with Turks and other ethnic groups in modern-day Turkey (Kurds, Arabs, Greeks, Circassians etc.) but today that is not the case.

Pashtuns across the border (despite being more or less the same people although differences exist as explained in this post with Palestinians and any other people) between Afghanistan and Pakistan, despite being brothers, have had their wars and differences. Mostly represented by the states that they are a part of nowadays (Afghanistan and Pakistan).

Some Israeli Jew of Iraqi or Yemeni origin, I would have much in common with as would any Middle Eastern person (Arab or non-Arab) if we look past the religion (Judaism which is the most similar religion to Islam) and political ideology. Denying that would be moronic. I mean there is a reason why Jews used to live from Iran to Turkey and Yemen in this region.

The "Semitic" aspect is not really something that exists in the real world outside of forums. Maybe for those who are history buffs but genetics have pretty much shown that such "racial" categorizations are simplistic as Turkic speaking Turks are closer genetically to Arabs and Greeks next door than they are to Turkic Kyrgyz people 5000 km away and Semitic people in Tunisia are closer to people of Malta while Saudi Arabia are genetically closer to Greek/Turkic speaking Cypriots than they are with Semitic speaking Habesha people of the highlands of Eritrea and Ethiopia.

Likewise with the "Iranic" group. Most deadly wars have been Iranic-Iranic wars that continue to this day. Living examples are the Kurds in Iran, Baloch in Iran and Tajiks and Pashtuns in Afghanistan that you probably know much more about. Same story with Slavic, Arabic etc. people.

Likewise take an Persian speaking Iranian from Western and Southern Iran. He is genetically closer to his Iraqi and Saudi Arabian neighbor than he is with a supposed ethnic Tajik/Dari speaking person from Tajikistan 1500-2000 km away.

As you probably know, this kind of stuff tends to stay on forums for a reason.

Even the likes of Hitler, when he used to mass-murder Jews, worked side by side with Arabs and allowed Arab leaders to even set up a radio station in Berlin that could prodcast "anti-Semitic" and anti-British material to the entire Arab world and even SS used to have and accept Arab volunteers. So much for "racial purity", lol.

"Semitic" Amin al-Husseini (direct descendent of Prophet Muhammad (saws) no less) alongside the "Aryan" Adolf Hitler.

Just as we are warring cuzins.

And have never really escalated the brutality and span of war beyond an unspoken Rubicon. That both sides (I would like to think) have not crossed because of blood.

Like the Korea's.

Your future eventually lies in peace with us. Either together or still separate I don't know.

I would like to think the former.

Cheers, Doc

Well, I like that. Real life has so many restrictions. On a forum you can really bounce off thoughts. Think aloud so to speak. That is how you explore new ideas and evolve thoughts. Stagnation is death knell of a country and people. As you probably have seen I never follow the herd and I don't much care for what others think. PDF gives me a place to 'vent'. And that is something I really appreciate about PDF @WebMaster

peace with us.
Peace yes.
separate I don't know.
Separate please and when time comes for supra-national union like EU then Iran, Afghanistan, Central Asia beckons. It was the British that divided us from our western counterparts. I would like to revisit our ancient history. The periods where we were part of the Achaemenid Persia, Greater Persia, Kushan, Gandhara etc.

Yes, I totally agree. Not everyone can stomach it though and on the "wider internet" PDF is much ridiculed due to the tone and prevalence of "trolls". However you just need to get used to the jargon and when you do that there is a lot of quality information on this forum and a lot of interesting persons from across the world with varying degrees of work and life experiences and nationalities from all imaginable social layers.

Racism is found everywhere. It's not like we treated the Bengalis as equal. Why you think they picked up the sword in 1971.

When u say we....speak for yourself and the so caleld idiots in power. I have pathans punjabis and bangalis in my family. All cool people. I am allergic to hindus for they mistreat minorities and hate zionists as they abuse palestinians. The rest of the world .... good and bad.
