Get set go: The inaugural run of the Lucknow Metro being flagged off on Tuesday. rajeev bhatt

Hundreds of passengers were stuck inside the Lucknow Metro for over an hour due to a technical snag on Wednesday, the first day of its commercial run, officials said.

There were no lights and no air-conditioning either when the train stopped near Mavaiya.

Passengers, excited about their first trip on the much-awaited metro, were stuck till a team of the Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC) came to their rescue. The passengers were taken out from the back through the emergency exit.

“There was some fault in this traction and we are working on it. All trains are plying on the other parallel track,” an LMRC official said.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had jointly inaugurated the maiden run of the Lucknow Metro with Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh yesterday. Governor Ram Naik was also present on the occasion.

The 8.5-km ‘priority corridor’ runs from Transport Nagar to Charbagh in the city.

The first 10 passengers of the Metro were given a pen drive.
LUCKNOW: For some, it was a joyride, for others, a planned decision to travel in a Metro to save time and for many , it was the pride of being the first riders of Metro in their city.

BBAU students Utkarsh and Himanshu, however, were so passionate about the event that they took tutorials from YouTube on boarding a Metro and other dos & don'ts on Metro premises.

An elated Utkarsh said, "We have never seen a Metro in reality but just in TV and films. We didn't know Metro etiquette. From the day we heard that Metro would open for public service from September 6, we had been taking tutorials from YouTube. We wanted to be the first riders ofLucknow Metro." His friend Himanshu added that the tutorials proved beneficial as the duo didn't make any mistake.

Many made the first Metro ride a family affair. Raghvendra Mishra, a native of Deoria who works in Luck now, invited his entire family to experience the first ride in a Metro. "I wanted to show my mother and my children what it feels like to commute in a Metro. It gives so much satisfaction to see such a modern infrastructure in your city," he said.

It's nice that even smaller cities like Lucknow, kochi , Jaipur have operational metros.
The joy of modern transport should be matched by comparable roads, municipals, water and electrical supply.

Where's the Urdu? Many indians told me that Lucknow is the birthplace of Urdu and it belongs there. But I see nothing but Hindi.

o_O
If u see at 4.30 onwards, the route map is trilingual.
Hindi,english and Urdu.
A few more observations based on the video..
1. Lucknow city view from the metro looks pretty good . Only mumbai with its never ending slums and lousy old buildings gives the shabbiest look of all the 9 operational metros.
2. The metro seems to touch the railway station . That's a good thing as passenger traffic will be assured. Though we should learn to travel light if metro is going to be useful. Guess the auto guys won't be pleased.

Wish UP political parties learn something from their Kerala counterparts , who invited the opposition leaders for kochi metro inauguration recently.
But I don't want to derail a infra thread with all this nonsense.

Lucknow Metro seized 20 kg tobacco on Day 1; wall defaced with pan masala stains
Commuters chewing pan masala wer asked to spit it before entering the station."

Not surprising , since the roads in lucknow are red in colour with all the paan stains. Guess some cities deserve to stay in the rickety bus era.
