What's new

LTG Zahirul Islam appointed new ISI Chief.

Really? You seem very knowledgeable on this matter. How is the selection process supposed to work?

Quite simply.. the names shortlisted are already on merit.
The final decision rests with the President and Ministry of defense.

The prez can only choose from five names? Can he review their records independently and in detail? Is there no parliamentary approval required?

Yes he can.. and not exactly.. for eg.. the current Air Chief was called up directly by the president and told of his appointment..something that left him dazed for hours as he was not expecting it in his wildest dreams.

Hello Guys..
My question is very simple who will be the next army chief??

I personally think Lt. general Zaheer ul Islam will be the best or the preferred contender because he has a good relation with Kiyani and have a same thinking cap like pasha is wearing.
The more important thing is he is the core commander of Karachi and there he did a great job to control the violence, but the most important thing is he has a good relation with most of the parties and doing a good job for Kiyani to watch the political agenda of the party as well as the external threats...

Cheeers..

yeh there is a misunderstanding btw all us as what role chowkidars should play , in my opinion they are mere security guards if insecurity persists FIRE them and get new people on board! whilst some of us are of the view that the problem lies with the recruiters !!! hence there lies the confusion !! bottom line those who pay are the decision makers not other wise , for you may be its a good jod if you ask me i am sure these SOb's are a part of it , for me they are like little security guards ... and from what i read you praise them for so called role ...

Mikkix, well obviously all the five candidates are top class and have got strong reasons to be elected.
You're right on your view too, but I guess Maj. Gen. Naushad Kayani should win the seat and Lt. Gen. Zaheer ul Islam should takeover the seat of COAS.
He can manage it better than the seat of DG ISI.

.
Major Ashfaq nadeem will be the contender of COAS with Pataudi..

Wouldn't it be an advantage to have a committee of lets say 3 to form a quorum in making primary decisions. This would result in Pakistan benefiting from the experience of all 3 gentleman we have mentioned above. The position is so so important and we could do with every bit of brain matter we could put together?

that my dear friend is too 'logical' for our part of the world. i think we need to have a senate/parliament committee who interviews the candidates and makes their final recommendations to the president.

Thanks for the info on how long the term is. Needless to say the appointment of one of the most important jobs in Pakistan's history will be not taken easily and lets hope the right man is promoted - as it will be paramount in Pakistan's future.

All 5 officers that are being considered for the post are very fine and disciplined officers. Their past track record speaks for itself. It does not matter which one of them gets the job because i have no doubt that whomever is chosen will execute his new responsibilities flawlessly.

.
Lt Gen Rashid Mehmood is also in race...... and his retirement is due next year i think so

.
No i think he may not become COAS, because there are little politics too in the army.
Major NAushad Kiyani has no chance i believe.
General Asfandyar Pataudi has better chance and have good relations with US so he has more chance to take the position

then that is a valid enough reason to disqualify him ASAP,
what Pakistan needs is someone who can take the Sino-Pak strategic alliance to a whole new level @ the same time be able to break the ice with the Russians, make peace in baluchistan & purge out the pro-U.S lobby out of the state institutions & holds on to a Strong position with a tenacious diplomacy with regards to the end game in Afghanistan

.
who ever comes nothing will change isi will do less for there country more of them selfs and army the notion will keep sufferring for ever :coffee:
