At this point. Qamar Bajwa should be the new COAS. His experience at LoC is indeed needed at the moment and his attitude towards terrorism is like RS.

This entire thread and the discourse in the media is misplaced. Its the GoP's fault that the selection of the next CoAS has been made such a big deal. NS has this disgusting habit of showing his insecurities each time this comes up. It should not even be news. Quietly select one, get the MoD to confirm and move on with the transition.

Whosoever will be the next CoAS will have his work cut out in front of him. Gen Shareef is leaving behind a rock solid legacy and big shoes to fill in.

its sad and surprising PM still has not decided the next COAS. But news is expected tomorrow. PM is leaving for central asia trip day after tomorrow. Hope atleast one time he showed himself a responsible person.

In my view, if not by seniority then the selection should give additional weight to those officers who aside from doing the normal rotation to the Corps have also led the General Staff as a PSO and a major plus would be those who have been posted both as the CGS and also earlier as the DGMO. These last two appointments give the officers a complete picture of what is happening all the way from staff issues down to the ongoings at the MO directorate. A huge advantage over someone who has only had exposure to command of a Corps and other staff appointments. The additional plus for someone who has been a CGS/DGMO is that they would hit the ground running as soon as they take up the CoAS' charge.

my personal view is that NS will choose LtG Ramday.
