@ It is a fact that the then Lt Colonel Ershad was commanding 3 rd East Bengal at Saidpur but soon before 25 March 1971, he was posted to West Pakistan and given the Command of 7 East Bengal. Once liberation war was going this Ershad silently came to Rangpur in leave and went back to West Pakistan. " Kothai agartola er kothai khater tula".
My point stands he fired bullets against enemy. So he fought for the mother land. Maybe captured later. And moved to West Pakistan. It doesnt make sense. So the writer maybe mistaken. Ershad was from the start of war was interned in W Pakistan. And returned later in 1973. Now it makes sense ''Atke pora Bangali".
