Longewala 'lies' - Nailed

see this as a football match.

pakistan with its large force was 1-0 ahead and army scored the all important equalizer but it was air force who scored the winning goal. but without army's equaliser it wouldnt have mattered

End of world cult follower calling a rational person medieval terms of discrimination is plain hilarious.

As hilarious as your kalki avatar or the aghoris or my personal favorite the devdasis? Run along pagan.

most u guys say we are 7 times larger than u,so by using the same logic we divided u into half, yes, not by land area.

Except you didnt because Bangladesh is not half of Pakistan and idc what others may have said no one said that here.[/quote]

Battle of Longewala is a long past event. Current feelings or identifying with the sides do not shed much light on causes and effects. Indian claims are based on better coordination rather than resources. In World War II actions the resources did not accurately convert into performance but keeping cool head improved coordination. Wehrmacht gave their most efficient performance in the fighting retreat near Oder Neisse Line. In spite of very poor state of Wehrmacht resources at that stage of war, Kriegsmarine and Heer did a perfectly coordinated shifting naval bombardment against Soviet armour to great effect.

India is taking risk by focusing on resources instead of action, but that is partly overcome by the policy of super cool thinking. Pakistan is always in action but their advantage might be reduced by the policy of excitement.

Due to such multiple opposed causes it is hard to predict the outcome of any large action between these two sides.

It is Indian Army version or Indian Air Force version; how does it matter.

The net impact was that Pakistani tanks and troops were nailed to their coffins with complete destruction on that night of December in 1971.

It does not matter who nailed as long as they did nailed and it was us who got nailed. No point in defending bruised egos. What ever the reason was, today's Pakistan is no different and if we did not learned from our past and set our house in order, we might face a similar situation. With past 5 years of Zardari and now Nawaz, one can be sure of this to happen in the foresee future.

Comprehension failure:
Dear, if Army did not hold the fort till morning, the Jaisalmer airbase would have been run over by the Pakistani thrust and thus no IAF operation, ARMY did not destroy the pakistani armor and infantry division, but it did hold the ground till dawn against overwhelmingly superior enemy...Comprendo?

LOL. Again it is a waste of time to argue here. The indian army scattered away. they had run away like rats when they saw Pakistani tanks coming. But you all keep believing the fantasy of false bravado of your mythical soldiers. lol.
But the reality will not change..........

What silly questions. Ofcourse, Indians can do that in their Bollywood films. Their heroes singlehandedly can defeat the Pak army easily as demonstrated in many of their movies while there side heroes will die slowly of many wounds after lying down in the arms of the main heor and talk for about 10 minutes and then finally die.

Why has the writer now suddenly telling the truth and annoying a lot of indians who believed this fantasy.

Tsk! Tsk!

Actually you are right.. The movie did exaggerate.

In reality, only two Indian soldiers and 5 BSF camels died. The Army, led by Major Kuldeep Singh Chandpuri held the post through the night. The Hunters came to rescue at dawn.

Had the army not been there, the tanks would have hit the black-top roads and would have reached the Jaisalmir airbase even before the Hunters could take off from there.
A fine example of co-ordination and bravery shown by the Army and the IAF.

A good watch, here you will find the interviews of all those men, who were involved in this battle, including Major General Atma Singh(BTW, he did not seem to disapproving about Army's role at all).

His contention is IAF obliterated the Pakistani Armor whereas, the on pop culture, army got the kudos for holding the post all night long...

Both contentions are correct as the Army did hold the fort with 200 soldiers and a recoiless rifle against an armored division and a Infantry division....

But the IAF came to the rescue and obliterated the attacking force, Not the ARMY... Which is true... But if the army did not hold the post the Pakistani thrust would have neutralized the jaisalmer forward base, and thus the outcome would be very different….

strong words

But still, pak got beaten at the battle, so they should not waste time on wether indian army or air force beat them.

The bold part is the crux ... my words might seem to pinch but we Indians can observe a wedge between the Shia's and Sunni's. Just make sure to mend things between both sects or India won't hesitate to exploit it.
in pakistan there is no wedge between shias and sunnis, nor will any shias help you ever in a war.
shias and sunnis live peacefully we don't consider them being shia as big deal as much as you people do lol.
half of my village is shia. one of my cousins mothers side is shia.
muhammed ali jinnah was a shia.
bhutto was shia
your hoping that there is a rift between sunnis and shia s then your mistaken. of course people are trying to make a rift but its not working.

But still, pak got beaten at the battle, so they should not waste time on wether indian army or air force beat them.
we took revenge for that in 84
indians vs indians 20,000+ dead plus the wounded. pakistan needs to wake up the sikh insurgency once again.

This is what I was trying to say earlier. There are attempts being made to fan the flames or to create a rift between them ( as you being a Pakistani knows better about the ground realities). Glad its not working and I hope it doesn't work in the future as well.

Indian Army held the post till dawn untill the IAF arrived, after then there was no need for Army to be there as pakistani outfit was on retreat, If Army had run away what the hell was your tanks doing fumbling around in the dark at night.....

If that is the case what will you call the recent happening in pakistan . Much more than 20,000 dead .

New book claims to nail Longewala 'lies'

One of the most glorious moments of the Indian Army, the victory in the Battle of Longewala in the 1971 war with Pakistan, is based on blatant falsehood, claims an upcoming book by a general decorated in the same operations.
The battle was immortalised by the 1997 Bollywood blockbuster "Border", starring Sunny Deol as victorious army hero major Kuldip Singh Chandpuri. In a tell-all account of one of the first engagements in the western sector during the 14-day war, major general Atma Singh (retd) has alleged that the army's version of the battle is built on "exaggerated claims" when it had little to do with crushing Pakistani forces.
Atma Singh, then a major, has credited the Indian Air Force for saving the day for the country. He was commanding the No. 12 Air Observation Post (AOP) flight, tasked with directing close air support firepower toward enemy targets. AOP units were under the IAF. "If our own troops had vacated the post (Longewala) at first light on December 5, then when and where was the big battle of Longewala fought?" he questions in his book, "Battle of Longewala: The Real Story", which will hit the stands on December 3, the day the war began 42 years ago.

The first six Pakistani tanks were sighted in the Kharotar area, 5 kilometres from the Longewala post, general Atma Singh writes in the book. "It was at the crack of dawn on December 5, after the army had vacated the post. The Pakistani tanks were bombed by the IAF's Hunter jets," he further wrote.

The author's version can't be taken lightly, as he was decorated with Vir Chakra, country's third highest gallantry award for bravery, in that war. Colonel PS Sangha (retd), who also served 12 AOP and earned Vir Chakra, has backed the version of general Atma Singh.

In the army's version, major KS Chandpuri (later brigadier) along with 100 men from 23 Punjab had frustrated an attack by a Pakistani brigade (some 2,800 troops) backed by an armoured regiment of 45 tanks.

Chandpuri received Maha Vir Chakra, country's second-highest award for bravery in the battlefield.

"It's about taking credit where little is due," said general Atma Singh, adding: "Can troops equipped with recoilless guns, medium machine guns and mortars beat off an armoured attack? I hope the book will lay the lies of the battle to rest."

Fighter pilots won eight Vir Chakras in that battle. A senior officer in the army headquarters, however, said soldiers from 23 Punjab had also played a valuable role of holding on to their positions and delaying the enemy's armoured thrust until the IAF had arrived on the scene.

Brigadier Chandpuri comments on book

Brigadier Kuldip Singh Chandpuri, acclaimed hero of Longewala, said he didn't want any certificate from Atma Singh "who himself was major at that time". "Ask him who held the enemy the entire night. He can write anything now when all the defence officers of that time are no more. Even the-then air chief marshal PC Lal in his book had praised the efforts of 23 Punjab under my command."

we know we lost that war due to lack of PAF support, it was logistically impossible.
now its all history who cares

the real battle took place at Hussainiwala where Pak Army took apart indian defences and captured indian areas , .. indians cooked up tales of Longewala after the hiding they got at Hussainiwala
