New Delhi, Jun 12 The long-range surface to air missile (LRSAM), which is jointly developed by Defence Research and Development Laboratory, Hyderabad with second biggest weapons supplier Israel, is ready to go for launch test to Tel Aviv.

The $350-million covered a joint Indian-Israeli development agreement in 2006 under the UPA government, to create a new medium shipborne air defense missile, based on the Barak system in service with both navies.

According to sources, under the contract Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) and its Israeli partners have agreed to transfer all relevant technologies and manufacturing capabilities to India, and to start delivering in 65 months’ time.

The systems’ critical design review is complete, the 2-pulse rocket motor has been successfully tested statically and has been delivered to Israel for launch test. Sources said the test is scheduled to take place in June-end and early next month, and this will be followed by control and navigation test later this year.

While the initial funding is about $350 million, of which IAI will finance 50%, additional funding will be infused by both parties as needed. Israel also has projected some requirements for long-range Barak air defense systems, and it could source missiles and other systems from India, he said.

The agreement paves the way to meet the immediate requirements of the Indian Navy, the scientist said. Under this agreement, the Defence Research and Development Laboratory and IAI will develop six long-range Barak systems for India’s stealth warships. The Navy is procuring three such warships from Russia, and the remaining will be built by the state-owned Mazagon Docks.

A senior defence ministry official said there will be a transformation in the requirements of air defense systems for the three Indian military services. Based on these projections and the high cost of air defense systems, the ministry has approved the initiatives under which, state-owned agencies can forge joint co-development and co-production ventures with foreign Companies.

Good one.
Isreal is slowly turning into a trustworthy ally.

With the way it defeated the Arabs single handedly in 1967, there is a lot the Indian army can learn from them.

oh really? what have you guys learned from 6 day war?
the only reason why zionist out classed the arabs in most of the wars is mostly due to lack of arab armed force professionalism and skills.

so YEAH I SAY YOU COULD LEARN FROM THEM.

about TRUST I WOULDNT START SINGING THAT TUNE JUST ABOUT NOW WITHOUT AMERICANS THEY WOULD BE NOTHING AND THEY STILL GET CAUGHT STEALING FROM AMERICANS SO IF I WERE YOU I GIVE A BIT MORE THOUGHT TO IT.

I don't understand why Indians and Pakistanis have to be so partisan while discussing events between Arabs and Israel.

Yes, Israel defeated the Arabs against heavy odds (at least initially). They both had a superpower behind them. Arabs did have superiority in numbers (50:1 to 100:1 advantage of population, area etc.). But not the same advantage in military strength. And they proved incompetent especially in military tactics and leadership.

But yes Israel did get support from USA (mainly equipment). But they had to use those equipments efficiently (which they did far better than the other side) and they did the fighting themselves. USA did not do it for them.

I have seen the sentiment by many Pakistanis to improve their relations with Israel and it may well be a good thing for them. Lets not forget they are the only democracy in the ME with elected Arabs also sitting in their Knesset.

Their technological capabilities are simply world class. If Arabs can learn to co-exist with them (and vice-versa), ME can be transformed with their know-how and technology.

Learned that one nation can defeat a big army of lot of states. Well arbas were supported by USSR. But Isrelis have defeated them

Did the americans give them troops ? Yes they gave weapons, and so did USSR give weapons to the Arab countries. Arabs had huge amount of weapons which they had acquired from USSR.

And remember "War is not fought by guns, it's fought by men". You would have been very familiar with this quote, had you been in the Indian Army.

Some people have this syndrome, "we lost becayse of xyz" - where
xyz- political confusion, lack of local support, lack of professionalism etc etc.

What matters is who won and who did not ! Simple, isn't it. This goes for all the wars.

But the bottom line is, Isreal took up Egypt, Seria and Lebanon in just a matter of 6 days.

Also the above video specifies why Ingelligence should be military specific and not only terrorism specific. That would cost very dearly in a war.

I think this long range surface to air missile supposed to target incoming cruise missiles, if this is the case then it has a flexibility for not only Navy but also armies of both nation to protect themselves against incoming cruise missiles.

'Sudarsana chakra' for Army

T'PURAM: Sudarsana Chakra,’ the powerful weapon of Hindu mythology, which does a U-turn homewards after each destructive mission, may not be far from becoming a very real member of India’s futuristic military arsenal.

Buoyed by the success of the Indo- Russian venture BrahMos universal supersonic cruise missiles, Indian scientists are contemplating a re-usable projectile which will revolutionise the war theatre.

‘‘It’s basically a delivery system, which will return after delivering the warhead,’’ A Sivathanu Pillai, DRDO chief controller (Research and Development) and CEO and MD of Brah-Mos Aerospace, told Express on the sidelines of a function here. Today, missiles - supersonic or subsonic - are ‘use-and-throw’ devices which destruct along with the target.

The re-usable version can be very roughly compared to an unmanned aerial vehicle used normally for reconnaissance, but of the lethal weapon type. The plus point of a reusable projectile is that the delivery system, which transports the payload - in this case it could be a nuclear warhead - can be used multiple times for delivering warheads.

The advantages, Sivathanu Pillai said, are many; the obvious one being reduced cost of missile production. Though the delivery system will have to carry enough fuel for a round trip, even that would not be an expensive proposition, as the fuel is kerosene-based, he said.

Though India is planning a hypersonic version of the BrahMos missile, the re-usable version will not be a variant of it, Sivathanu Pillai said. The hypersonic versions will be able to fly above Mach 4, or four times the speed of sound. The supersonic BrahMos missile developed jointly by India and Russia and inducted by the Indian Army and the Indian Navy flies at Mach 2.8 speeds.

India gearing up to test missile shield

6/15/2008 2:55:39 PM

Graphical representation of the locations where the anti-missile will be tested
After developing its state-of-art missile programme, India takes a step forward to bolster its huge missile arsenal by developing an anti-missile shiled which will not only protect our metros but also our sensitive installation from any conventional or nuclear attack. A missile attack in any of the metros can cause huge devastation, which would be unthinkable off. However, with this improvised version of 'Aakash' missile system, India will possess an anti-missile system that has the capacity to destroy any nuclear attack.

The anti-missile shield that India hopes to build will have highly-sensitive radars that can track the incoming missile, the interceptor missile that can destroy it and a guidance system that ensure the two missile collide all within a matter of seconds.

Dr VK Saraswat, Defence Scientist said that this missile becomes absolutely imperative as far as India is concerned because of the highly populated metros. The missile shield is expected to protect India's key oil wells and nuclear installations

The two thousand crore project will be put through a crucial test after two successful trials by September 2008. This much needed missile shield will be ready soon, but everything will have to work out well as it should be perfect enough to conduct its operations in seconds.
