What a marvellous achievement by our local shipbuilders!! Thanks to Allah for taking our country forward. It is a milestone to our continuous progress. The day is not far off when we will build corvettes, frigates and destroyers in our own dockyards.

Ananda Shipyard and Slipways Ltd (ASSL) is going to deliver a 'Fuel replenishing oil tanker' at a cost of Tk 720 million to the Bangladesh Navy in June this year, officials at the launching ceremony of the tanker said.

The Bangladesh government is procuring this tanker by its own fund and Janata Bank is supporting Ananda Shipyard with financial facilities for construction. According to the ASSL officials, this tanker is able to replenish fuel to Naval ships on both sides while all of them are steaming in sea at both peace and war situations.

The tanker is powered with 4000 HP (Horse Power) and can move at 24 km/hour in adverse sea condition. The 270-foot long tanker can carry 2400 tonnes of fuel.

@kobiraaz, what name has been given to the constructed oil tanker? The picture shows it is large, looks very strong, ye very beautiful. The colour is exacly what an oil tanker should be. It is blackish or near blackish. The overall balance is so perfect!!!

I beleve, this ship and the other in the coming June will attract the eyes of oil tanker businesses thoughout the world and will create a oil tanker construcion business in our shipyards. I always believe that defence related local procurements always initiate industrial development. Yesterday, it was a beautiful fishing trawler and today it is an elegant oil tanker. These achievemnts will certainly cause the western shipping companies to anchor their eyes on our shores.
